Do those clasps even do anything? Or are those shoes held on by black magic?
This is a modern cosplay item. But dressy shoes from the 1690s would have had a wide strap or “latchet” from each side, that crossed over and were held by/threaded through a separate fancy buckle. You could use the same buckle with different pairs of shoes. I think working shoes would have simpler ties.
