Sounds promising, looking forward to it!

Call me cranky though, for noticing that Variety are happy to credit Yamazaki for his work on “Minus one” and this new film, but when it comes to the original creators?

Toho, the Japanese entertainment company who created the giant, lizard-like kaiju

Let’s be clear here, no entertainment company ever “created” anything. Produced, financed, marketed, and continued to milk a franchise beyond the intentions or influence of the people who laid the groundwork? Absolutely.

I’m not saying Ishirō Honda was exploited or cheated in the way, say, Marvel Comics did to Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko — he certainly kept producing kaiju movies for Toho for decades. But Honda, as well as Takeo Murata, Shigeru Kayama and Eiji Tsuburaya, deserve to be credited for their work.

Okay, end rant. I’m excited to see Takashi Yamazaki’s Godzilla sequel, too 🙂
