PieFed Meta@piefed.social•Rewards - Feature Idea and potential for monitisationEnglish
1·3 days agoTo think of possible solutions and not just shut down any ideas.
If you think my suggestion is bad, I challenge you to come up with a better one.

2·3 days agoI disagree, images add a lot and it’s already built into PieFed quite nicely. Relying on things like imgur to host your images comes with a lot of problems, adds friction and is bad UX.
If PieFed becomes 10% the size of reddit, which I hope it does, how do you propose the hosing costs of the ~40 million weekly active users are paid for?

2·3 days agoI’m proposing it purely for cosmetics, it won’t boost your comment or post with default sort.
And users can opt out of seeing any rewards.
It’s just a nice fun thing to have, and something small you get for making a donation

3·4 days agoMoney can pay for new features like the ability to upload videos or keep images longer etc. Currently I think images older than x years get deleted, money can solve this.
Thought experiment: Reddit has 400 million weekly active users. Let’s say PieFed grows to 10% of that.
That means that there will likely be multiple instances with over 4 million weekly active users, how do they pay for that? Who pays for all the images (and hopefully video) that those users share?

4·4 days agoPeople like to consume media in different ways does the format really matter?
It’s not “just a random youtuber” many YouTube channels have teams of people and journalists working for them and deliver quality news.
newspapers, online-news, radio etc. All of them have biases.
Personally I like this format and so does ~230,000 subscribers. I can watch it while I eat breakfast in the morning

12·4 days agoPerhaps, but sadly we do need money to make things work. If PieFed grows to 1 Million+ users I don’t think donations are going to cut it.

4·5 days agoExactly, we don’t need software updates on busses and especially don’t need them connected to the internet.

3·5 days agoAnd we can never make cars 100% safe. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t care about seat-belts, airbags, ABS and crumple zones.
Just because we can’t make the danger zero, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do the bare minimum to mitigate the danger.

5·5 days agoYou can revert it to a older version though.
With most cars you flash the ECU with software using a diagnostic tool, if you don’t like the new version you can just flash a older version on there.
Or in many cases modify it and flash your custom version.
You don’t have that control if it’s all Internet dependant, and there’s no kill switch.

9·5 days agoSell your car, and buy a plane ticket plus your first months accommodation, that’s what I did. In much of Europe you don’t need a car, where in the US that’s not true.
IDK, look I’m not saying it’s easy at all, moving continents is a very difficult thing trust me I know. Sadly many good things don’t come easy.

9·5 days agoOne thing living in the EU has taught me is how valuable Work Life Balance is. Where I’m from working overtime, being burnt out and not having job security is normal.
You have no idea how nice it is to have 25 days paid leave each year, full job security and basically never having to work overtime.
I would pick that over a 30% higher salary any day of the week. Work to Live, don’t Live to Work.

It’s definitely not easy leaving everything you ever knew behind to live on a different continent but The Pro’s are Healthcare, Employee Rights, Stability, Safety etc. so it’s so worth it for many.

Cool so let’s just pin this as one of the best current suggestions until something better can be thought of.
