I was really expecting the “aliens” to be Pakleds. Like maybe some extra smart, extra mean Pakleds.
Musician, nerd, anxious.

I don’t know much at all about the Bible, but is there a reason why in almost all the translations (and interpretations) it appears assumed that the reader is a man themselves? Like, what if a woman is reading? What does it mean then?

I always struggled with that word too, but remembering it like that will probably fix that issue for me. I don’t really have many opportunities to use the word “medieval” though.

I absolutely love him as Gay Perry! Outstanding movie.

I have not seen that one yet, perhaps I’ll give it a look!

I actually didn’t even remember him in that until now, I suppose he was alright, but I agree, the role wasn’t exactly exercise in acting.

Such a strange little, uhm, love(?) story!

Jared Leto (I don’t know why, I just really don’t like him), but there are no roles of his that I like. In fact, he has ruined a few movies for me. I was actually really excited about Tron: Ares until the casting was revealed.
Is it actually federating yet?

That is insanity. Meanwhile I sit in my backyard right now that is so overgrown I can barely see my large dog… I should probably be shot too. They brought a tank to a code enforcement situation.

Shower thoughts in the shower? Hmm…

Exactly. The algorithm is literally designed to stop people from thinking about what they actually care about. Of course that has caused deterioration of every aspect of human society to some degree.

The algorithm(s) and “For You” pages I think have done more damage to my ideal internet than anything else ever has.
I have a feeling that someday in the future we’ll also see that the algorithm was also responsible for damage to the human mind and society as well.
There are absolutely other people out there like you, I’m a lot like what you’ve described, slightly different details, but overall it sounds very familiar to me. For a while I felt disconnected from society in almost dissociative kind of way, but in recent years I think I’ve come to realize it’s not really me who is dissociated from reality. You mention people using corporate social media and propaganda, I think those two things have created such terrible disparity between those who use it and those who don’t (and amongst the ones who use one network, but not the other one, etc…) and the people who strive for facts and empathy become alienated from what appears to be “normal” social behavior.
So yes, there are (hopefully many) people out there with whom you should not have to compromise your core principles to be friends with, but I think these types of individuals are the quietest, the most thoughtful, and introspective. The one compromise we the quiet ones should be making these days is to be vocal.
I hope you can find some likeminded folks to be social with!
Wow, I haven’t seen that in like two decades!

This is one of those movies that I’ve been meaning to watch for, apparently 32, years. In this case it works out that I haven’t yet because now I can (maybe) finally watch it in high quality!
I was diagnosed with with ADD in 1992 at 12 years old, and again by a different doctor at 16, but it was the 90s and “we all had ADD!”, at least that’s what I told myself for the following two and a half decades. I basically gaslit myself into completely dismissing the diagnosis from two separate doctors several years apart. Of course, I also struggled with basically every aspect of what I would have considered “normal life” all the while. I mean, barely able to exist in the Normal World ™ and always wondering why the hell I couldn’t just “get my shit together”.
Well, spoiler, it was the ADHD. The incredible thing is, I know about a dozen other people my age who all have the same story as mine. We made a joke of it all and ended up really screwing ourselves over as the punchline.

Fuckin gross.

“What I can tell, however, is that hating on the tech itself distracts people from blaming those actually responsible, the humans doing the enshittification. The billionaires, dictators…”
^– SattaRIP^
That’s something I’ve been trying to convince people of that I converse with about LLMs and similar generative technology. I’ve met so many people that just throw a big blanket of hate right over the entire concept of the technology and I just find it so bizarre. Criticize the people and corporations using the tech irresponsibly! It’s like a mass redirection of what and who is really to blame. Which I think is partially because “AI” is something that sort of anthropomorphizes itself to a large portion of society and most people think the “personality within” the technology is responsible for the perceived misdeeds.
I figure when all is said and done and historians and researchers look back on this time, there will be a lot to learn about human behavior that we likely have little grasp of at the moment.
Fucking hell. I mean… fuck.
I wish the world would lose all of its stupid societal stigmas that make people feel less human than their equally human peers.
