25·6 days agoAhhhh but those devices don’t have ‘the ecosystem’. You know, that bloated software that locks you into apple everything by making a handful of tasks marginally more convenient for the tech layperson.

2·8 days agomaybe because it’s usb? fiber/ethernet sfp+ transvievers are about the same price ~$15 each. But ethernet modules consume a lot more power and have higher latency.

7·8 days agoWe should ditch ethernet, coax, and copper completely for data transmission. Everything should be fiber cable. Fiber internet to the house, fiber throughout the house, etc.
It’s likely just a bot. It’s a common tactic to claim an identity of authority and then make a statement. Almost always bots.
“I’m a liberal and I can’t stand x, so I’m voting for Republican!”
“I’m a doctor and because of x I don’t recommend to my patients to do y.”
They’re trying to steer public opinion with these posts. Some try to get fancy and use LLMs to make them so they’re not all identical. And so you get rediculous statements like the above. No human would vote for someone who killed their husband. Hence the disgusted reaction.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Retired WoW players, how does that part of your life shade your current life?
24·9 days agoI honestly don’t think about it a ton. I think about Everquest more than WoW. I set up my own Everquest server once upon a time and had a bunch of fun being alone on a server with custom settings.
I did read about hosting my own private WoW server, and I might do that. I’m normally a single player gamer type except when playing with my wife. Had her try WoW and she didn’t care for it. We are currently playing Satisfactory together.
I had mostly played WoW because my bro played (10 yrs older) and wanted to hang with him. We did, it was a lot of fun. I was in his guild and made some temporary friends. Went on a date with one of them. It didn’t work out.
I do remember spending way too much time playing it. It felt like sometimes I waited more in game than played. I don’t really miss it though. I have a large steam backlog I’m working my way happily through.

What is this thing?@lemmy.world•Weird box with icicle attached to power lines?English
5·9 days agoMine is. I have one and tried. I can’t even see it. I also have a similar looking antenna at the end of my street.

5·9 days agoMy smart electric meter has a zigbee symbol on it. It’s likely a locked down encrypted proprietary network, but it’s there. I spoke to the installer and he didn’t know what it was but did say they were on their own network. Mesh makes sense too. You can have one of these pick up a neighborhood, and each house connects to all the rest. Can even be flaky, they just need it to connect once per billing cycle.

14·9 days agoYep, we have smart water and electric meters. I’m pretty sure these are for communicating with each house’s meter and gathering usage data.

41·11 days agoI think they’re just keeping their heads down and not poking the bear. He’s already blindly striking out at imaginary percieved insults. They’re just riding out the next few years and hoping to not make anything worse.
Plus, it’s not their job. It’s the US’s job to clean up the bed they shit in.

Linux@lemmy.world•Ok, how do we actually fix the linux bluetooth issues?English
18·12 days agoMostly depends on your blurtooth card. If the one on your mobo isn’t behaving, grab a $10 generic usb one off amazon that claims it works with linux. Mine’s been solid for years, it’s what I had to do.
But how you FIX it is you dig into the code and fix it so everyone else with your card gets the positive experience.
I touched poision ivy once and it looked like this. If it doesn’t go away like a normal mosquito bite, might need to get it checked out so you can get the prescription cream.

That’s fair. It should be optional. Having made plenty of charitible donations, it’s likely so they can send you thank you cards and solicit more donations from you.
So long as it’s not used for billing, I’ve used plenty of fake addresses for stuff like this. Usually 123 Fake St. Springfield IL in honor of the simpsons.
