I think he wants it removed because of the effect on Tesla. He’d prefer if he could do things without consequences for his actions.

In Musk logic: it’s not bad when he does it. It’s bad when people start discussing it, because they might come to a disapproving conclusion.

On TV the heil reaches the target audience in a way of plausoble deniability, on the internet it can be perceived constantly, thought of, discussed. That breeds dissent much more than passive, temporary consumption.

That and he definetely wasn’t expecting the backlash to be as big as it was

    because it didn’t work.

the whole idea was to trigger the libs with a vague gesture, like that one bitch who turned it into an awkward wave, but he got a little too into it and now people are setting his cars on fire.

I think it’s more that he got a bit too excited about the way the far right can get away with absolutely anything. The media will make excuses for you, the fan base will love it, the more outrageous it is the more it makes libs cry. The democrats will impotently voice objections, the Overton window will move as required, and you will have gotten away with it. I think he wanted to be the star of that whole circus.

Remember when he was investigated by the SEC for Tweeting out that he was buying back Tesla stock for $420 apiece?

And when he got booted out of the company he started because he insisted on naming it “X” despite everyone telling him that made it sound like a porn site?

And when he accused those divers of being pedophiles because they rescued stranded children before he could find a way to make it about himself?

And when just about every time he announces he’s saved government money, the number “saved” is immediately backtracked?

And how the whole reason he owns Twitter is he made on offer that he immediately tried to back out of and would have if not for the threat of a multimillion dollar suit for breach of contract?

Elon Musk does not think shit through. However smart or stupid he is, however deeply he does or doesn’t believe the Trump Administration’s fascist bullshit, he does not dedicate much time to thinking about it before he does stuff. I do not doubt for a moment that he performed and meant to perform a Nazi salute. As to what he was thinking, I cannot say. Maybe he cannot. He definitely has sympathies for anti-semitic and racist movements, but I don’t think he thought he was going to be hailed as the savior of the Aryan race for doing it. Maybe he thought it would be funny. Maybe he thought it would be “ironic.” Maybe he thought it would get “teh libz” in a tizzy. He probably didn’t think he would have to avoid ever going to Germany again under threat of being arrested. Whatever he was thinking, he probably wasn’t thinking it more than five seconds before he did it. And he’s clearly not thinking it now. Because despite being the richest man on the planet, Elon Musk is a bumblefuck who doesn’t think things through and has thus far been able to buy or otherwise ride his way out of any consequences of the things he has done without thinking about them.

Did Germany make him persona non grata or something? Or is there a standing arrest on sight order for Nazis in general

Yeah, I think you’re exactly right. Now he’s seeing consequences - particularly the affect on the Tesla brand - and realised he’s shat the bed. So he’s thinking ‘If I can make those photos go away, people will forget it happened.’

      Yeah, lotsa luck with that.

That diver stunt was my “this guy is stupid and I shouldn’t listen to anything he says” moment. Before that I was just skeptical. No idea how he had any credibility with a decent human being after that.

He doesn’t want it removed. He wants to target those using it against him. Nazis using it to praise him are not in the crossfires now.

More examples of literal nazis praising trump and musk needed to be shoved into to the general publics face to combat this. Ive only heard some nobodies on internet mention it.

Because a nazi Sieg Heil is seen as a bad thing by 90% of the world and if he came out and admitted it was one he would probably lose a few supporters from being on his side (probably not a big amount but some)

Is there confirmation that he actually specifically wanted that image off reddit? Or is this just someone making assumptions after the recent story about him interfering with moderation at reddit?

The latter. There’s no news about blocking his sieg heil, just articles about the doge critique and banning linking to X.
