People can be outraged at two things although I wouldn’t call my comment outrage. It just boggles my mind that a 80 year old person thinks it’s ok to talk to people like that. Being respectful to other people is free. It would have cost him nothing to not post the comment.
I was taught at an early age to be respectful to people even if you disagree with them. But I was also taught to take up arms if someone tries to fuck with my rights.

I thought Roseanne Barr tried to reboot her show from the 90s like 10 years ago, and it was controversial at the time for being considered right leaning.
Roseanne ran for president in 2016 for the green party I think or maybe her own independent party. When they were rebooting her show, she made a rant on Twitter about a black woman and called her a monkey. I think it was a politician, I can’t recall who exactly. That’s why they kicked her off the show. The rest of the cast went on to do it and they renamed it The Connnors.

Now seems like as good of a time as ever to say this. I have in the past always said that in 1930s/1940s Germany the average German may have or may not have supported the nazis. I have also said that the average German may have or may not have known about concentration camps.
Without the internet, those citizens never had a voice. And it was all too easy for the nazis to round up opposition, and take them to camps.
I have always had people argue me that couldn’t happen. That all Germans at that time knew, and supported it. Then they call me a holocaust denier. Which never made any sense to me. I never said it didn’t happen.
Point is, without the internet, todays modern american would not have a voice. It would seem like we ALL support maga. We don’t. However, there are large portions of americans who think of cops as the good guys. There are people who argue that police don’t abuse their power. Simply because their media never tells them about it. Not because they support police brutality, but rather because they believe Rodney King was a single incident.
These same people think you’re crazy if you tell them what ICE has been doing, or that we’ve already turned into a nazi state.
So I’ll say it again. The nazis took full power. They never had full support. Maga doesn’t have full support. Get your voice out there. Fight maga regardless of what nation you live in, just as your grandparents fought nazis regardless of what nation they lived in.

Ok, sure. But I’ll also say this. I don’t know anyone who watches multiple news outlets. I also don’t know of any singular news source that’s accurate and unbiased.
What I found used to work for getting the bigger picture is going on reddit’s news subs.
Thousands of people, all posting from various sources, with a comments section that isn’t biased towards one direction (though they do lean more left historically, but not always).
Then I got banned from reddit by a bot that never made sense, as the comments I was banned for weren’t even controversial.
And Lemmy just doesn’t have the pure numbers to do that sort of thing. Which is sad, because being decentralized is the whole point here.
The end result is, I feel my news is incomplete, and often untrustworthy.
So yes, those people chose the wrong source for news. But at the same time, there really isn’t a decent singular source either.
You should check out GROUND News if you haven’t. Its a great way to a get an overview of all the various biases in different sources reporting on the same news.

Any German who didn’t rise against the Nazis did support them. Doing nothing is the biggest form of support fascists need to survive because they have so few hardcore supporters.
The same goes for Americans today. If you’re not actively fighting them, you are enabling them. Every dead immigrant or trans kid is someone you could have tried to protect but you didn’t want to use force or risk yourself for.
