    Germany and the US are gonna be pretty unhappy if that happens. Both subsidized domestic Intel fabs.

    I mean, don’t get me wrong, Intel’s 13th and 14th gens were a fiasco, and they gotta get serious about putting out reliable product, but those countries are gonna want fabs, and I don’t think that they’re gonna want to settle for single-sourcing from TMSC.

    Well, it sounds like they already put the Germany plans on hold late last year. I don’t know how that works financially between Intel and Germany.

    Disappointment in Germany after Intel pulls plug on chip factory

    Efforts to boost semiconductor manufacturing in Europe have suffered a major blow after US chipmaker Intel abandoned its plans for a multibillion-euro chip plant in eastern Germany.

    “The announcement is not good news for Europe,” said Reiner Haseloff, the premier of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, which was due to house Intel’s chip factory in Magdeburg.

    Intel’s decision, announced on Thursday, had been expected, Haseloff said, after months of bad news at the company.

      They pushed the Ohio fab back, so not cancelled, but originally when the canceled Germany, Oregon and Israel they claimed they were doing so to focus on Ohio. Then they delayed Ohio. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not further delayed or just canceled.

    Not sure Intel will survive the next 5-10 years. But they definitely won’t without leadership that pushes for new, aspirational products vs. crouching into a defensive posture.

    They desperately need moonshot leaders and stories.
