Characters making uncharacteristic decisions for the sake of creating some dilemma or advancing a plot point. Works for movies too.

My dog gets really scared of the swear bleep noise and a specific ding sound effect. Also smoke detector beeps but those aren’t often on shows. Since she started taking her anxiety meds it’s not as bad, thankfully. But for real, it used to be that the bleep or ding would make her into a trembling mess.

Edit: I’m seeing now pet hate is synonymous with pet peeve. Oops. Oh well, I’ll still leave my literal answer lol.

I also thought it was a question about what your pet hates on tv!

My dog hates balls. As soon as he hears a ball bouncing or sees a ball on the tv, he starts barking angrily!

    Beautiful waitresses.

Cruddy biker bar far out in the boonies. Foul unwashed customers in a foul unwashed shed. The women serving drinks all look like they stepped out of a perfume commercial.

Anti-intellecualism/ smart person hate. I understand some people lack theory of mind. Sometimes someone else knows more and the “I like your big words smart man” routine is old.

Guards getting choked out or bonked on the head and then being out for hours without any serious health issues.

I am quite LGBTQ friendly but lately one of my pet peeves is how every show these days needs to have the main character in a biracial gay relationship lol I’m all for representation in media but it’s becoming quite the cliche now

    1. Clip shows of previous episodes.
    2. Someone running from danger and then tripping and “twisting their ankle”.

It’s an anime trope where characters A and B show clear interest on each other. A keeps chasing B, but B runs away from A’s advances. A never gives up, B never returns or rejects the advances.

Typically A is a woman and B is a man, but I remember at least one case where this was inverted. The two yuri series I’ve watched (I’m in Love with the Villainess and Tensei Oujo to Tensai Reijou) avoid this, but I think you’ll find examples of that if you dig into other yuri series. And in yaoi too.

I don’t mind a slow romance. I don’t mind lack of romance if the anime series focuses on something else. But all this trope does is to waste screen time with a romance that’ll never lead anywhere.

And, like, it’s a pet hate. I know it’s supposed to be funny. But it makes me cringe every bloody time.

competent anythings. cops, surgeons, lawyers, bakers, criminals, whoeverthefucks, if they’re consummate professionals and especially if there’s quick-witted, snappy banter, I am out
