Having my millionth conversation with a Victorian about South Australians calling “power poles” Stobey Poles. That’s because that’s what they are.
Thank you! I didn’t know what to call these since moving to Adelaide. They are everywhere!
Its language use not just accent, so a Victorian would say a bag, a Queenslander would say a port.
Port? Use of “port” to denote a bag, suitcase, or other “carry all”?
Only octogenarians use “port” in this manner…
I’m an almost life long QLDer and ‘a port’ to me would mean a fortified wine…

I’m one of them, only recently moved to Adelaide.
Apparently I’m hopeless, they all just sound “Australian” to me. I didn’t even know there was much state-by-state difference lol
Definately used to notice a South Australian or Adelaide accent. Not so much anymore. Not sure if things in the ground have changed or if my hearing is getting worse.
