Maybe Michael Burnham showed some tears at one point or two during the series (god forbid a Star Trek character raised on Vulcan showing emotions throughout her personal development), well she was still an absolute badass and a role model for numerous fans. Wether angry nerds like it or not.

Long live Discovery.

DISCO was the first student in a new class of Trek. A return to TV Trek after JJ’s trilogy, making his partner in crime Kurtzman take on the EP reigns previously held by [D]ick Berman. It was always gonna be rocky.

They did a fair few things well. Tried to maintain a sense of hope amidst the pew pew. Sonequa Martin-Green is a solid actor left to work with weak writing and characterization. Loved Rainn Wilson’s turn as Mudd. Using season 2 as an extended backdoor pilot to Strange New Worlds worked out to our advantage. Just couldn’t stick the landing like most JJ associated properties. Maybe I’ll rewatch it in a handful of years and see things differently.

It was a strong start, but the writing just keeps getting progressively worse. Since TNG, the opposite was usually true, first two seasons pretty bad, fourth season onwards good. DSC did one strong first season, a still good second, and then started going downhill.

There’s some brilliant work in 7, but it was also a dumping ground for leftover stories.
