I bring a sort of “paying taxes to fascists is bad” vibe to the ethics discussion that libs don’t really like

In a practical sense - how long can you avoid paying federal income taxes before the IRS drags you away in cuffs? I know its a game of chicken. But Trump’s slumpy stroke face gives me hope that the whole MAGA movement will dissolve when he doesn’t wake up one morning because a cheeseburger clogged a vessel in his brain.

Leaving the country, for a trip or whatever, isn’t too hard if you already have a passport. Moving out permanently and living in another country is much harder and more expensive. Prohibitively so, for the vast majority of Americans.

And, just for fun, if you pull it off, the US still expects you to pay taxes to both it and your new country of residence

It’s been a few years since I got mine… maybe a hundred dollars? A bit more? I remember being more distressed about having to mail away my physical birth certificate than the cost

EDIT: according to the State Department website, it’s $165 for an adult for the book

Native born americans are at a severe disadvantage moving anywhere else in the world. If you’re a UK citizen you can hop on a plane and have full rights on any corner of the earth. But I’m exploring possible avenues in case things get really bad here. I’m still crossing my fingers that Trump bites it from natural causes and the subsequently maga movement collapses in upon itself.

Ethically? Totally agree. Practically? The IRS is one of the last three-letter agencies I want to piss off.
