What if you’re wearing cargo pants?
What if you’re wearing a shoulder bag?
What if you’re wearing something with only two pockets?
What if you have a jacket on?
Where, oh where do your things go???
Nice try, FBI.
Ha ha, well-played Jeff, you got us.
front left is phone
front right is keys, weapons, 2nd phone, and wallet if no back pocket’s available
back right is wallet, important papers if they fit
back left is extra napkins if a restaurant gives me too many, face mask if I’m not wearing, maybe some other crap depending
that itty bitty pocket above the right pocket is mostly for found paper clips, found hair ties, loose change, lapel pins, or loose tacks that need for a different pinboard
I don’t use back left pocket for anything and my pants show it.

This is me during warm weather. During winter the phone and wallet go into coat pockets. Sitting down is more comfortable with empty pants pockets.
This was my rig until I got a cross-body bag. Now everything goes into the bag, except my phone. That way I don’t need to carry everything around while I’m at home; and I don’t need to keep loading / unloading my pockets at night or going out
If I just have pants/shorts:
- Front Left: Phone. This is what I mainly hold my phone in, and dictates where everything else goes
- Front Right: Slim bifold wallet and keys.
- Rear pockets: Nothing. I don’t like the feeling of sitting on anything. It also might be needless anxiety, but I feel like I could be pick pocketed more easily if I had anything in my rear pockets.
If I’m wearing a sports coat, which isn’t often, I’ll put my phone in my right interior pocket, and my wallet and keys in my left interior pocket. Mostly since I can then reach in with my left hand to get my phone.
If I need to carry more items I’ll use a small satchel or something. All of this sounds convoluted, but makes sense in my head. Also, I don’t wear jeans, haven’t for years. They’re not very flattering from behind and they always manage to pull on my leg hairs somehow.
All of this sounds convoluted, but makes sense in my head.
Makes sense to me. I do something similar mainly to avoid tiny scratches on my phone screen. I hadn’t considered coordinating the coat pockets with the pant pocket system, but I might do that too now 😄
Women don’t usually get pockets so everything goes in my bag. But tbh the bag helps my adhd as well, if I always keep everything in the bag I won’t lose it or forget where I put it.
In order…
- back right
- front right
- front left
If I’m wearing a coat, keys might go in the right coat pocket.
I can’t stand anything on my pockets anymore. Everything goes to the backpack, or purse/fanny pack. I saw a guy in a rave with a chest fanny pack and I’m curious about them.
Is this different from wearing a regular fanny pack diagonally across your chest/shoulder?
If you have your phone on the fanny pack, and you are dancing, the fanny pack is going to bounce and hit you in the chest. I usually use the fanny pack backwards, so when dancing it’s bounce and hits me on the ass, but that’s the best outcome.
Phone left front.
Wallet goes in right cargo pocket or front right for jeans and slacks.
Keys in right front by default. When going to work they go in the backpack and in winter I put them in a zipped coat pocket on the left so they don’t end up under the seat belt.
Back pockets are usually empty because I don’t like sitting on things. Sometimes I put paper stuff back there like receipts or notes.
Front right
- Pocket knife
- Earbuds
- Keys
Front left
- Phone
- Vape
Rear right
- Wallet
Rear left
- Free Parking
For two-pocket pants, the wallet goes in the front left.
Right rear, handkerchief.
Right front, phone.
Right front inset, wedding ring and Aldi quarter.
Left front, keys & cards, formerly also hairties.
Left rear, left empty and used to carry garbage until I find a trashcan.
(If I’m wearing shorts without rear pockets, the handkerchief goes in with the phone.)
Respect for the aldi quarter
My jeans very rarely have actual pockets, so sometimes they have a back pocket for transporting my phone small distances, but if I’m going out it all goes in my handbag.
Front right phone
Front right tiny pocket, headphones
Front left cigarettes and lighter
Rear right wallet
- I don’t wear cargo pants. Nobody should.
- if I’m wearing a shoulder bag, it’s because I’m carrying stuff other than what is already in my pockets. Like my water bottle and my laptop.
- I don’t wear things with only two pockets.
- if I’m wearing a jacket, it’s because it’s cold out, not because I need extra pockets
Ok I’ll bite.
Why?
After reading a bunch, I’m realizing I’m sort of an odd duck
Phone goes in back left, wallet in back right, keys hooked onto belt loop and if they’re too noisy, tucked into front right pocket. Chapstick and meds go on my front right. And front left is empty or for random stuff.
If I’m wearing a jacket, then phone goes in front right usually and keys might go in front left if there’s not an interior breast pocket.
This is subject to change if I’m traveling or nervous about pickpockets.
When I’m at work in my work gear my phone goes in my right pocket on my thigh wallet in the same pocket on the left,
Keys if I take them from the car go in the left regular pocket.
Pen and paint markers and ruler in left breat pocket.
In shorts phone in right wallet left keys left if I have them.
I used to keep my phone in my right breast pocket when working but as phones got bigger I stopped being able to button it up, this led to me bending over and dropping my phones a lot.
One time I did this twice left it on the ground the second time working in a paddock by myself,
Proceded to get my hand stuck and unable to reach the phone to call for help and had to stand there for 20 minutes until someone found me.
As many of you, front left is for phone.
Front right is for everything else I need, usually vape but it could be keys if I don’t wear a jacket.
Back pockets are always empty.
I ditched the wallet years ago, everything is on my phone and as long as I am not crossing a border that’s enough for daily life. The problem is that I am so used to not having a wallet that I forget it even when I’m supposed to go abroad and show an ID if asked. Oh well this is Europe, it’s like casino roulette, maybe I’ll get a border patrol, maybe not 🤷🏻♂️
I ended up getting one of those adhesive cardholder things to carry 1 id card, and one credit card so I can turn NFC off on my phone.
Phone in one pocket, keys and wallet share a pocket.
It doesn’t matter if I am in cargo shorts or have a jacket with pockets.
