Thank you for your comment. Sad to hear that the biggest MMO ever is in this state.
It’s still fun.
No matter what type of gamer you are there is a reason for you to hate WoW. 🤷♂️
Just play it.My biggest gripe with WoW is the price.
SoD was really fun, can confirm. The phased content was awesome. They should make fresh servers and tune the progression a little.
There are basically 3 types of MMO right now:
- Old MMOs like WoW or Runescape which have hardcore followings but also massive and slightly disjointed feature creep that can make them hard to get into, there’s also a fast track to endgame which helps new players catch up but makes the main experience more like a co-operative MOBA than the tabletop roots of the first MMOs.
- Newer MMOs that retain more semblence of leveling and progression but are primarily single player experiences with other players kind of just there, you can party up for things but for the most part every class can solo every piece of content.
- Squad based MMOs with multiplayer hubs but missions limited to squads of 3-8 players, despite being the least MMO these are your best bet for meaningful interaction with other random players though the innately limited scale of the content means clans and largescale events are scarce or non-existent.
People have been trying to get me to play runescape again, but as far as i see/hear its just grinding numbers like a 3d fantasy cookie clicker.
Was it ever anything else? lol
It was my first taste of an open world rpg with quests when i played as a kid.
The dialogue and storytelling in some of the quests is kind of good and it at least has somewhat interesting and unique quests as opposed to fetch quests
Been playing City of Heroes: Homecoming lately. Great, helpful community on all the shards.
The original City of Heroes game was shut down in 2012, but some of the devs kept a private server running for their own use. That leaked at some point and more private servers started popping up. Homecoming finally got the blessing from NCsoft to run their own not for profit servers a few years ago and have been developing it again so they are adding new content, new power sets, etc.
All free to play too. They accept donations for a few hours once a month just to cover server and operational costs.
I’m playing on Turtle WoW, it has it’s flaws, but it’s one of the best WoW experiences out there, assuming that you like old style MMO’s.
I’m also playing some Guild Wars 2, it’s great, but I cannot say anything about the endgame.
I played Turtle Wow a bit a while ago, it was definitely quite cool!
Turtle WoW was great! Can also recommend Tauri WoW for anyone that wants a newer expansion on a PvE server. They recently released WoD using the Legion client and will be moving to Legion soonish.

I can’t believe that game is still kicking! I was playing that like 13 years ago.
Do they still charge for the elevator pass and to unlock inventory slots and equipment slots? It was so pay to win
The elevators are free now.
It was never pay to win, because you can buy the other currency (Energy) with crowns (from market/depot and other players) and it’s really cheap.
Basically the elevator fees were just lowering everyones profit a bit after they had used up their Mist Energy, because Crystal Energy for an entire run of elevator fees was worth much less crowns than needed to buy extra 100E.
The trinket slots cost a bit of E every month, but they sometimes add them to boxes like this years halloween event boxes had them. We could get them by farming candy tokens. So basically free but luck based. And if you’re unlucky, just trade 6750cr for 150E and buy a slot from depot.
Warframe has never been better
Warframe looks pretty great. How easy or grindy is it to play solo? I tried the tutorial a long time ago and liked it, but never really got into it.
Unfortunately it takes a while before it gets good. While you can absolutely play through the game solo and be just fine, group play is very resource rewarding, so I generally recommend keeping that on most times.
To expand on that first note, warframe is at its best when you’re theorycraffing how to mod a weapon you like to be viable in tough content, and unfortunately you just don’t have the tools to do so for many hours when starting.
Ah, got it. Not enough time for that, maybe one day in future.
Thanks for the info.
I’ve been playing Remote Realms these last couple of weeks after burning out hard on the OSRS emphasis on efficiency and meme grinds. It’s a fun little indie MMO that feels like Runescape and Pokémon combined, small community but it is slowly growing.
Honestly one of the biggest things about MMORPGs to me is the RPG part. It’s a breath of fresh air to feel like I’m exploring a new world again and going on little adventures without a preestablished meta.
I used to play FF14 religiously, met so many friends on there that I still play with. Very few of us except the most dedicated have quit the game, since the pace of updates (and being adults) have prevented us from playing the game enough to justify the sub price (~$15 USD a month).
However, I still enjoy MMOs and have moved onto a game I used to play some but never invested a TON of time into: Guild Wars 2. My girlfriend and I have been playing it some when we have time off work, which is rare right now but the game has no sub price and doesn’t feel like it demands your time in a way the sub-based MMOs do. They have little to no FOMO, horizontal progression (no gear treadmill like WoW or 14, whatever endgame gear you have is mostly always relevant), a fun open world with enjoyable mount travel and a pretty decent community. The game has had its ups and downs over a year but I feel like, from a working adult perspective, it’s the only MMO I’ll ever have time for.
Hi vendor buy bank guards recdu recsu
Kal Ort Por
I didn’t understand this at all and thought it was some random spam.
I had to check with AI to find out what you were referring to.
Bank spam mostly, I haven’t had to say those words since I was last at West Britain Bank
Not really a MMO guy, but have bee playing Fintal Fantasy XIV recently. I am mainly playing it as a single player FF game and at least the base game can be completed without interacting with any other player. Should be same for rest of the game too, but I have only completed the base game yet.
There are dungeons and bosses that require multiple people, but the game allows you to recruit random NPCs for that, which aren’t as good as players, but get the job done. You can also connect with random players for these, and complete these without actually talking with them, but that seems weird to me, so try to do at least “hello” and “GG” if nothing else 😀
There are also guilds, PvP and lots of other social content, but all of that is optional, and since I never interacted it with much, can’t say much about it, but as much as I have seen, the community is very welcoming, and there are regular messages about people recruiting for their party or guilds. If you have and a group of people you enjoy gaming with, it can be a fun way to spend your time.
OldSchool RuneScape is my jam. They poll updates and are very community involved. The game isn’t for everyone, the grinds can be very, very, VERY long.
They also just released OSRS’s first new skill so there’s tons going on in the game right now.
Other than OSRS, I fail to see any MMO doing well. They always seem to have some glaring issue somewhere. The current state of WoW (and Blizzard as a whole, I couldn’t even bring myself to finish Diablo 4) just makes me very sad.
I have never been interested in MMO, probably because of my limited gaming time making it difficult for me to play with people at the right time.
But I want to try Elders Scrolls Online, solo. I like Skyrim and I wonder if ESO would be fun solo.
It’s enjoyable enough, but is a different experience from the single player Elder Scroll games. If you like the Elder Scrolls world, it might be enough of a hook for you to enjoy it.
