At this rate, soon the fear of war will decrease, because there will be no one else left to be frightened.

just gonna be a montage of every state’s Fumiko blipping out of existence, interesting that each one actually counts towards the population.

What are we thinking is going on with Fumiko?

The reveal that she seems to have endless copies of herself seemingly anywhere she wants to be opens up many questions about her motivations and potential functions/role in the plot.

Like, are these US copies there under HQ pretense? If so, then to serve what purpose? Its almost def not surveillance as they have countless other ways to do that more effectively than putting a physical person there to look around.

Are they there because she is also employed by the US or some stateside organization?

Or maybe she represents some other faction/philosophy that hasn’t been revealed yet? Possibly something to do with her obviously op contract? Idr off the top of my head if we know why she got into this line of work, but it is very possible, increasingly likely even, that she’s working under some manner of false pretense. And then you have the nature of her power heavily implying that she is uniquely capable of simultaneously playing all sides, on top of that.

What goal is she really serving and/or what is she actually capable of? Iirc she was introduced as a low rank hunter and it was only during the Aging Devil sacrifice negotiation that we learn she seems to have much higher standing in the org than we were first led to believe. Tf is her deal?

I think she’s just playing the observer role in order for someone to be able to recount the events to the involved characters since everyone is kinda not exactly in the same place right now.

That’d make sense for some of it as she has historically done more observing than anything else, now that you mention it. While we were told she was watching over Denji (and later Nayuta), it could be that she was instead just supposed to be literally watching them. Like, in spite of being able to survive combat she has run just about every time threats get too physical, even though her task was allegedly to keep these people safe and/or in line.

I think you may be right about her role in the US, but what we’re told about her seems to be consistently misaligned with her actions. It’s odd that she seems to keep failing at her assignments, but then keeps getting trusted to function on her own with increasingly high priority jobs. That math’s not right unless they’re scared of her (and letting her do whatever she wants) or her actual job is intentionally being kept from the audience and cast.

You know who else had observation as a focal point of their character? Makima, with all her little critters spying and her endless thirst for the control that knowledge brings, and even with her connection to canines and their keen senses. I dont think Fumiko is Makima or the next control devil or anything like that, but it is very interesting that they share this trait while also playing somewhat mirrored roles in Denji’s social/emotional development.

I’m betting these aren’t all accidents and coincidences on Fujimoto’s part.

And sorry for the ranting. I may be thinking too hard about this lol
