Megyn Kelly went on her Sirius XM show and said ‘I haven’t seen anyone under 10 come forward.’ She acted as though ten years old should be the bar for pedophilia. Force a 12 year old to have sex? That’s ok… they’re almost grown up anyways.

Shortly after Megyn’s show aired, men flocked to social media to out themselves as pedophiles.

For some reason, there [are] a lot of men who are only too happy to admit to being sexual predators.

Are they looking for MAGA street cred?

    Watching the narrative shift in what feels like merely a few years around pedophilia of all things has been baffling, horrifying, and nauseating. It started with the manosphere/trad men and now you have pro-natalists glorifying teen pregnancy; Republicans covering up the world’s worst child sex trafficking ring; and state legislators airing letting vets marry 14 year olds “as a treat”. Representative Lauren Boebert’s son impregnated a girl, and her public statement was that the victim was older than 14 (she was 15) and going to “keep it”. A culture which can shrug off pedophilia is not a culture that can stand.

      In fairness to Boebert’s son, the news stories I’m finding say he was 17 at the time. We probably shouldn’t condemn teenagers as pedophiles for having sex with other teenagers close to their own age. Exactly how much age difference to tolerate is tricky, and something I’m glad not to be tasked with deciding.

      The only thing that shifted is the spotlight from MAGAt’s screaming about “satanic pedo democrat rings” to “Holy shit there was a real pedo ring and the Republican president who latched onto ‘satanic pedo democrat rings’ as an issue was besties with the guy who ran it and probably knew about it”.

      Now they are on maximum spin damage control. Hence the hairsplitting on ages and the definition of pedophilia.

        The US has always been kinda crappy. Look at who it picks fights with and look at who it generally avoids and you’ll learn a lot. Europe is better than them in so many ways and they know they’d get stomped if they compared themselves to most of the continent so they instead compare themselves to places that are a little more in line, often times because they themselves destabilized the region. Whenever Europe is mentioned it’s “oh, we couldn’t do that here because we’re different.”

        Here in Canada we suffer the same problem except we compare ourselves to the US as our low bar.

    This shouldn’t even be up for discussion. Don’t diddle the kids. Don’t force people to have sex if they don’t want to. Don’t have sex with someone you have an unequal relationship with, like teacher and student, coach and player, or employer/employee. Don’t expect sex from someone. Unless you’re in your teens (and not 18 or 19, either), teens are off your dating card. None of this should be controversial at all!!! Ug!

    That it is shows that America is not a moral country and never has been.

    Why Don’t the Survivors Name Names?

    Several of them have, and none of the offenders have faced serious consequences. No, Andrew Windsor’s mild public shaming doesn’t count.

    I don’t know the context or who this person is but maybe it’s about the meaning of words?

    Pedophilia = pre-pubescent

    Hebephilia = pubescent

    Ephebophilia = mid to late pubescent

      Just like a ladybug is a type of beetle, all of those labels can fall under the colloquial usage of the term “pedophile”. Technicality has nothing to do with this discussion, underage girls are underage.

      No, they use the narrow meaning of the words to justify rape of children.

      Nobody uses those precise terms outside of specific academic disciplines and psychiatric professions.

      Pedophilia is and has long been the term generally used for people with an immoral/illegal attraction to minors. Everyone knows that when someone colloquially uses ‘pedophile’ they are referring the victimization of a minor.

      There is no need to use those specific terms except to deflect and muddy the waters.

      This distinction is useful to a mental health professional treating someone for those conditions. It is not useful in the context of the public condemning adults for sexually abusing children.

      If you have to distinguish the terms then you’re the one with the problem.

    When I grew up in the 1970s, after Woodstock, Christian private schools were very clear that nobody ever had sex. Look at Mary. Immaculate conception.

    I suspect it was a reaction to the Hippies of the 1960s and their free love flower children generation. My my how the pendulum swings.
