Feel free to add your picks, or discuss my choices.

  1. Marc Marquez. I was one of the people who was afraid his injuries were so severe that he would never ride again and reach the top level he used to. So I am extremely happy that he’s won his 9th title!

  2. Alex Marquez. He’s been the overlooked younger brother for so many years, but look at him now! I’m so impressed with him taking second place in the championship. Two brothers winning 1st and 2nd place—it’ll be a long while til that record is equalled.

  3. Johann Zarco. Simply because of his win in Le Mans. What a fairytale race that was! A true legendary ‘underdog prevails’ story. I recommend reading David Emmett’s blog about it, ‘Ode to Joy’, it captures all our feelings about this race.

  4. Marco Bezzecchi. It’s been a pleasure to watch him mature as a rider and a person this year, and develop the Aprilia bike almost single handed.

  5. Francesco Bagnaia. This might be a surprising one but it’s about his character. People predicted when Marc joined Ducati, there would be arguments, psychological warfare, and a wall put up between garages. But instead he has been welcoming, gracious, mature, I don’t think he’s said a bad word about Marc.

Special mentions to:

  • Raul Fernandez (hope he regains his outstanding Moto2 form)
  • Pedro Acosta and Fabio Quartararo (for god’s sake put them both on top bikes so they can challenge Marc)
  • Fermin Aldeguer (Rookie of the year, keep on improving!)

Numpty of the year:

  • Franco Morbidelli. (I don’t need to explain why!)
