Private prisons handle about 8% of the prison population (100k-ish people), and is allowed in about half the states.
oh yeah, slavery is a huge industry in the United States. the prison corporations are even publicly traded. they lobby for harsher penalties on small crime as well. guess who benefits the most from immigrants being thrown in cages, and was bragging about how profitable it was going to be on shareholder calls?
