Intro

As we get closer to the start of Journaling January here’s the information you need.

TrackBear

I’ve added a document to the wiki on How To Set Up TrackBear for this (or any other FediWriMo) event.

To complete your setup, you will need the leaderboard Join code: 257ef994-e7d6-4de0-a847-a6e15cf8ed6d

Journaling Overview

I’ve also added a rather lengthy document regarding Journaling that I hope will answer questions for folks that have not journaled before. Of course, it may also cause mass confusion…<lol> But, always take the most simple answer. Here’s the document:

An Introduction To Journaling

Closing

A final note: I’m in the process of restructuring the Wiki, but it will remain usable while I am working on it. Currently, it has an index page that is a bit of a place-holder, but all the information that was linked on the sidebar previously is now in the Wiki Index.

Thanks for participating in Journaling January. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask here in the community, or open a chat with me and I will be happy to assist you if I can.

Comes just as the right time as I want to give journaling another go just now!

Also the introduction was very eye opening for me. The last time I tried journaling I was able to keep it up for 1 1/2 years but felt something was missing. And reading your guide I understood what it was: I was more logging than journaling. Even when I tried to write about my feelings it was still very descriptive. I might even be able to name a feeling, but I would not really write about…what I was feeling, if that makes sense. I guess I was never really honest if I use the words from the introduction.

Realistically, I will start logging again, but with everything I’ve learned so far, I will try to move to journaling. But thank you for the nice write up. It’s really helpful!

Glad the timing for this event is perfect for you.

Logging has its place, but it’s not the same as journaling. I don’t know if you got this far (that article is way longer than I initially intended it to be), but down in The Science of Journaling section, I referenced a video by Dr. K Does Journaling Actually Work? (Journaling 101) - I highly recommend watching that video. Dr. K does a better job that I ever could in explaining what a journal is, and what you can accomplish.

Don’t worry if you start logging again. For the past several months I have been writing stuff that’s more about things that I want to do, kind of circling around the issues and things that I really need to deal with. It was only a few nights ago that I tried changing something about how I was writing, and got totally different - and more useful - results.

Also, don’t get discouraged if you do start logging again. Remember that one of the attributes of journaling is that it changes over time. You might start with one method or structure, and eventually evolve into something completely different.

I skipped over the Science part and saw that you referenced the video. It’s on my to-watch list, I just was not in the mood for watching it yet (I kinda prefer to take in information by reading). But I know Dr. K and I really like his videos so I will watch it for sure, soon!

And yes, for now I just do the logging/journaling hybrid I did last time. I feel like just starting is more important than starting the right way. And then see how it changes and works for me. Thank you for the kind words :)
