The Board of Peace is expected to try and mediate global conflict and has been accused of trying to replace the UN

Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” has faced fresh ridicule after it emerged that nearly half of the countries on it are banned from entering the US under his travel ban.

Trump unveiled his alternative to the United Nations with great ceremony on Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

He welcomed representatives from several countries on to the stage and said he was “friends” with all of them. They included Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bulgaria, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kosovo, Mongolia, Morocco, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan.

Notably absent from the address were any European countries amid reports that Vladimir Putin had been invited to join.

I was going to wince at a US publication not doing European geography, but no, it’s actually the British The Independent, of all places.

Arguably Turkey as well, albeit sitting on two continents. This hurts. Erdoğan is a stupid shithead but I don’t want anyone - not even him - to play Nazimurica’s little bitch. And the people of Turkey do not deserve this. Atatürk would turn in his grave…

Europe and Asia are not separate continents.

A continent is a continuous piece of land. Those are only considered separate because certain folks don’t want to mingle.

What is the definition required for Europe and Asia to be separate continents?

Literally common opinion? Seriously since when has China or Japan ever thought themselves continental brethren with France and Britain?

You’re discounting logic because a land mass that does not have opinions does not hold that opinion? I did not know that you base all your opinions on a person whatever the singular opinion of a person named China and/or Japan.

A continent is a relatively arbitrary cultural and historical definition, which even varies from region to region.

How do these people feel about paying big chunk of their GDP (10% in Kosovo’s example) to appease a foreign king? Crazy.

One ruled by a Russian Dictator, one has a massive Corruption problem and government taken down by anti-corruption protests, and another is not fully recognized as a legitimate state (Russia among them in fact.)

Just saying the Geography maybe there but in terms of weight of legitimacy…

If we’re being pedantic…Eastern Europe isn’t Europe proper. If we’re stretching “Europe” to mean the EU, Kosovo isn’t in the EU.

They need to stop calling it a UN alternative. It’s literally just a Trump Appreciation Club. It’s all about appeasing his ego, as made clear by his temper tantrums against anyone who doesn’t want to join

They apparently uninvited Canada after our primi minister’s speech. Honestly, an uninvitation is like the greatest honour we can receive from that guy.

This is so fucking stupid at this point.

The implementation of project 2025 is not a distraction. It’s the entire goddam plan.

Pretend that I posted a picture of the Skeksis council from the Dark Crystal. For the last few days, Lemmy hasn’t been able to handle the posting of pictures. That really puts a crimp in memery.

Anyone know what happened with Australia?

I assume we just plain were not invited because we’re unimportant, which is fine.

While that may be true, it’s not how international diplomacy works. We’re pretty far up Trump’s ass, partnered with AUKUS and the rare earth deal. I imagine Albo wouldn’t want to be involved but he can’t just tell Trump to fuck off.
