From Alexander Lee

“I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have it.” - Thomas Jefferson

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’d rather be lucky than good. This long eared owl was just off the trail when I rounded the corner yesterday on a frigid walk! I was extremely surprised when she sat long enough for me to snap a few photos as I moved along the trail to give her her space.

I love the details of the ”horn” feathers. It’s not often that you can imagine seeing that so sharp and close up.

I’m a huge fan of feather close ups!

We generally seem to think of feathers as just feathers, but there are many different types that serve different functions for the bird and they look and act totally different.

It can be like looking at magnified snowflakes, looking at their intricate and distinct structures.
