A lone astronaut (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of his mission. As he pieces together his past, he discovers he’s humanity’s last hope against an extinction-level threat, leading to an unexpected yet crucial alliance.
I’m going to be super angry if this isn’t at LEAST as good as The Martian. Definitely my favorite Andy Weir novel.
I actually prefer the Hail Mary Project in terms of novels. It was just a compelling a story, if not moreso. I really enjoyed the wider scope of science and technology involved.
This is the first film I’ve been excited for in a good long while. Love the book even if there are a few mistakes and some stuff that makes you go “yeah, that ain’t ever happening”. Hint: world comes together to avoid a catastrophe. World seems hell bent on accelerating catastrophes happening instead. Book was probably written in a time when there was hope for the future. Just checked, it was written on the dewy slopes of 2021. Those were the days.
