      I had a friend in high school start a rumor that I had gross nipples, because he wanted me to prove him wrong.

      It didn’t work, we each lost a friend, and I had people making shitty digs at me about my supposedly gross nipples.

      (FYI, if anyone is going to make the obvious joke here, advanced warning that I’ll just block you)

          Oh, yeah. I’m glad I found out, but it blew up my high school friend group up a little right as we were leaving, so as a result, I have two friends from high school, both women, less than twenty years out. I suspect that if it hadn’t happened, the shittiness of some of the guys who spread the rumor would have gone unnoticed by us long enough for them to grow out of it. That’s still not ideal, but again, I did graduate during Obama’s first term.

            I’m mid 40s and have no friends from high school. None from either uni I went to either. I have friends but also accept that friends come and go. Maybe I should try harder but I’m an only child who moved around a lot as a kid. Friends come and go and always have for me. It doesn’t bother me. I don’t struggle with loneliness.

              That’s a-okay and everyone has different habits about that. I’m bad at making friends and I have only gotten worse as time goes on, so I try to hold on to my friends. I’m still friends with 4-5 people I went to middle school with, and ~6-8 people I went to college with. We don’t hang out every day or anything, but I talk to them directly at least occasionally (I live across an ocean, so there’s not much regular contact, but we saw each other when I last visited).

              It’s okay that there isn’t anyone else from high school, but it is out of the ordinary.

        Damn, I can’t imagine how much that must’ve got into your psyche. It must’ve really worn you down, even knowing that the rumour was complete bullshit. It’s hard enough being a teenager without supposed friends creating new things to feel insecure about. I’m sorry that happened to you
