Peter Moore might not remember Commander Shepard’s title, but he’s still sore about that award
EA thinks that is why they’re hated? Ooh boy, sit them down.
Commander Shepard can die in Mass Effect 3. You see, there are these three paths, and we’re not gonna tell you which one goes where (but you can Google it if you really care), you just have to pick one. In one of them, Shepard lives. In the other two, she dies and her name gets put on the cool memorial on the ship.
The ending of ME3 wasn’t great, but it was fine. I didn’t get the ending I wanted — they tell you all about them, but they can’t be arsed to tell you which path leads to which outcome? — but I was satisfied with the ending (Destruction) I got. (The one on the right. IIRC the middle one is the one that leads to Shepard living, but don’t hold me to that.)
What makes EA pretty nasty, IMO, is that in ME4, they shut down online, but they still leave the online quests in, and they still sell the digital currency. And the ship takeoffs and landings are unskippable. There are a lot of issues with ME4, but it’s still fun as hell. It wasn’t well received at launch, IIRC, because one, it had the loot boxes from the 360 version of ME3, and two, because Ryder isn’t Shepard (boo fucking hoo, Shepard died and this is 600+ years later in a whole other galaxy). But hey, I got it for $4. Could have got it for $3 but I figured I’d get deluxe. Half of the Deluxe bonuses are online perks. Still not mad. The terraforming stuff is great. All the fetch quests after? Not so good. I still like the game, and I still trust BioWare. EA though? Pile of shit.
I don’t think they’re worse than Bank of America, though. With EA, gamers aren’t forced to buy the games they publish. And they publish some good shit. And they published Rockband when Activision was trying to run music games into the ground (which they succeeded in doing — EA was fighting against that, or at least helping Harmonix do so). They’re not always the bad guys. I’d even go so far as to say EA is kinda fine, you know they’re a big company that tries to make gaming as profitable as possible. They’re still not as shit as Activision, Bethesda (new Bethesda, not old Bethesda), or any of the big mobile game companies.
Yeah, Mass Effect 3 had an absolutely crazy shit instead of ending.
