Now, most of my recent comments have at least three downvotes, despite being on different posts and regardless of whether they’re controversial. If you scroll further, all the comments have at least two downvotes, then at least one downvote, and only my oldest comments don’t have this pattern. I’m sure this happened somewhere in the last two hours, because I didn’t see it when I checked it earlier. What happened? Did three people dislike me so much at the same time that they downvoted every comment on my profile that they could scroll to?

looks like you’ve pissed some people off and gotten a stalker or two. it happens. good thing down votes are essentially meaningless here. make an alt if it really bothers you, or just wait it out.
People on the internet suck. When they get too many details about your life they start to create a narrative. Now when your username comes up on their feed they’re having a emotional reaction instead of just blocking you.
You didn’t do anything wrong, you were just a woman on the internet and there’s a limited number of ways you’re allowed to be that.
For best results, just ignore them.
Ask the mods in those communities if they will tell you who the downvoters are, then contact the admins of the instance those people are on and explain that you have someone harassing you.
Judging from your post history, I would imagine it’s someone from the Triad down voting you, probably with sockpuppet accounts. There is a portion of fedi that cannot handle Russia or China being anything other than glorified.
For me it shows a the most recent comment at +2, then a bunch that are at 0, then one that is at +5 and only then there’s some that are in the negatives.
But anyways, I wouldn’t worry too much about them. People are strange. They downvote for strange reasons. Seems to me that you didn’t say anything controversial.

Oh right, I forgot about that. The theme (or whatever its called) that I use doesn’t show the separate numbers, unless I put my mouse over the average number.
But like I said, don’t worry about it too much. And I echo the other guy who said that you may have some weirdo following you and downvoting you, just wait it out. Maybe make a new account to get rid of them or whatever.
If it were me, I wouldn’t care about such stuff.
A week ago I removed the vote scores entirely, it is surprising how much it changes the entire experience. On one side I gradually stopped worrying about how my comments are doing, and for other I found myself paying more attention to what I read once I don’t know what other people think.
