The stock lemmy web client has had this annoying shitty bug as long as I remember. Not sure how or why ppl have tolerated it for so long.
I started this thread:
https://lemmy.sdf.org/post/52956979
Then I wanted to cross-post to !IRC@lemmy.cafe. The first defect is that it’s impossible to enter the full address of the target forum. Lemmy forces us to enter only part of the name and choose from a pull-down list. Then from there it’s not even smart enough to prioritise the user’s subscribed forums to the top. So entering “IRC” gives a long list of circle jerking forums, while the more simple match !IRC@lemmy.cafe is pushed off the list.
Same issue with “AI”
Indeed it is rampant. Searching for “tor” is also a mess. Anything under 4 chars, generally, because UIs are now designed to assume normies cannot handle special syntax chars, like
\wor\<to mark word delimiters. But then Lemmy fails to give a higher rank to whole word matches. So it’s designed for people who struggle with tech /by/ people to struggle with tech.
I did find https://lemmy.world/c/irc – but there’s no posts in that community.
It’s not a problem for finding it. It’s cross-posting (e.g. to lemmy.cafe/c/IRC) that is a problem.
Oh, sorry. I wasn’t clear. I saw the bug too when searching for IRC, even placing a space before IRC, and even quoting IRC. I was just mentioning the internet relay chat at lemmy world, once found, is empty.
