I thought of this album after reading the article that @bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works shared earlier this week. (https://lemmy.world/post/44958191)

I’ve been collecting vinyl albums for ~two years now; I never had a turntable before, and really hadn’t listened to physical media since I was a little kid. This was one of the first vinyl records that I bought, and therefore, one of the first full albums that I had listened to in a long time.

I discovered Rush by downloading mp3s from Limewire in high school, so I wasn’t really familiar with any of their actual albums. I had always just been listening to a playlist of Limelight, Tom Sawyer, Subdivisions, Test for Echo (the song), and a few others. This was my first time listening to one of their albums as a single work, and I immediately saw the value in doing so. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it, even though none of my favorite Rush songs were on the album. That has always made this one special for me: it’s the album that made me realize how great it is to listen to a full album.

I think A Farewell to Kings might be my favourite album of theirs. I’m a sucker for Cygnus X-1

A Farewell to Kings is one that I still haven’t listened to in one go – I’ll have to do that soon, even if it’s just on youtube. I do love the idea of an album ending on “part 1” of a song, and then being finished in the next album.

People had to wait more than a year to hear the second part!
