Have you seen Amélie? Not at all my usual kind of film, but I watched it because I heard good things about it. It’s a very quirky and endearing film and I really enjoyed it.
It’s French though so you’ll need subtitles. Unless you are a French speaker lol

- Flow. It is about a cat leading a group of animals to safety during a flood.
- Good Night Oppy. It is the story of the Mars Lunar Landers and the amazing way they were used. It is incredibly inspiring, as is so much that NASA does.
- Marcel the Shell with Shoes On: It is a stop motion movie about a shell and damn it is so good.
- The Florida Project. This is an odd one, but it does have a lot of tackiness too it, but not in an overt way.

Normally I’m a bit of a movie snob and would never have picked up s title called Napoleon Dynamite but I’m glad I was convinced, one of my favourite movies!

Probably whole Wes Anderson filmography up until he went off the rails with the formula (Grand Budapest Hotel and later) would fit.
Wrong. It went to shit starting with Isle of the Dogs. GBH was peak
Grand Budapest Hotel is a very good movie (and so is Isle of Dogs) but it’s around that time when Wes Anderson became too much style over substance imo and OP wanted to avoid „tacky” which I would say those are.
Beetlejuice
I rewatched it for the first time since childhood with my partner and we were both shocked at how little screen time and lines a Beetlejuice had compared to our memories of the movie! Still one of my favorites, though. Mega holds up. …also we were on acid.

Beetlejuice was a family classic for me growing up… we only had a few VHS’s and that was one so we rewatched it 1,000,000 times.Bettlejuice 2 sucked but it did manage to milk a couple drops out of my nostalgia gland.

Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams adapted book, towels and bypasses
The blues brothers - a little old but I think it’s pretty good, plenty of good music
Duck soup - Marx brothers comedy that mostly hold up, very old so a couple things mentioned that were cultural references at the time are no longer known but that’s pretty rare overall

If you are in a “what is love / would anyone love me / would I love anyone” type of period, I recommend you watch Before Sunrise.
I couldn’t believe this movie was downloaded when I set Radarr to download IMDb top250. The premise of the movie is that two relatively wealthy people smell each others farts for an hour and a half.
Character 1: I have this incredibly popular worldview which makes me sound cool.
Character 2: I can’t believe it! I’m also a very smart free thinker! I thought I was the only one :O
The old Alan Rickman movie Truly madly deeply is great. Definitely not tacky. Probably wholesome? I definitely felt more happy than sad when credits rolled, and better for having watched it.
