Motab Shaikh moved the Supreme Court after his name was deleted from the voter roll, and an Appellate Tribunal later cleared him to contest from Farakka. The ruling restored his voter status in time for nominations, and he went on to defeat the BJP candidate by more than 8,000 votes.
