My wife and I are straight allies, and we’re doing three vendor markets next month that are Pride themed. I think I’ve put together a good Pride playlist, but I’m looking for suggestions! They have to be family friendly (no explicit tags, no profanity, no crude language, etc.). So nothing from Hazbin Hotel or Alien Stage!

The image is the playlist cover. I took the Wikipedia Pride flag and added text. Pretty easy.

I can’t share the playlist because Apple Music will attach my real name to it. They used to just use a nickname I entered, but now they insist on using my full government! So that’s a no can do.

I’ve got Queen. I’ve got Elton John. Got some Harry Styles. I got a lot of songs that aren’t necessarily associated with the LGBTQ+ movement but feature themes of love against odds and love winning, people who don’t fit in but stay strong, etc.

All suggestions are welcome and appreciated, even if it’s already on the list.

And if anyone knows how to share an Apple Music playlist anonymously (could do screenshots) let me know!

Is it too much work to write a list of the song names or just screenshot the songs and crop out your name?

If no other reason, my own curiosity.

Do you have Kylie Minogue’s All The Lovers on there?

You’re right, and I thought about that later. It’s currently at 87 songs, and I have PicSew (app that makes stitching screenshots easy; XnView is also good for this).

I don’t have any Kylie Minogue and only know her for Can’t Get You Outta My Head but I will look that song up.

I love what you’re doing. We need more queer representation and culture in commercial spaces. It’s the only way liberation happens.

If you haven’t ever heard Jill Sobule, she did a song called “I kissed a girl” and it is pretty much an anthem to a lot of lesbians in particular

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a song with Arabic. It sounds good. I like it. It’s got one F-bomb right at the end, but I can hit skip before she says it if I think it’ll cause an issue.

    Garbage.

    … the band, Garbage.

‘Queer’, ‘Not Your Kind Of People’, if you’re a rain type person or a trauma-sponge type person: ‘Only Happy When It Rains’… many, many more songs of theirs are probably extremely relatable to a general LGBTQ+ crowd.

Also, make sure you have the Flash Gordon theme from Queen. Just, because it’s fucking awesome.

Yeah, I know Garbage! Grew up in the 80s and early 90s, I remember them. Shirley Manson.

I don’t know the Flash Gordon theme, but you got me thinking, a lot of those 80s movies themes might fit. I’ll have to look there as well.

Flash! AaaaaAah! King of the impossible!

I mean, if you’re going with more 80s movie themes (or at least somewhere in the soundtrack), just cause they’re awesome… ain’t nobody that doesn’t like the Ghostbusters theme.

        lemme find some more…

        Update:

Axel F by Harold Faltermeyer, from Beverly Hills Cop.

Everybody Needs Somebody To Love, by the Blues Brothers, from the Blues Brothers.

Highway to the Danger Zone, by Kenny Loggins from Top Gun.

(Eye of the Tiger might be too overplayed and meme’d, to this day, but maybe?)

Footlose, by Kenny Logins again, (I appear to have a noticable bias,) from Footloose.

Get Outta My Dreams and Into my Car, by Billy Ocean, from Liscense to Drive.

Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler, from (again) Footloose.

and, to close out the mixtape:

Cat People, by David Bowie, from Cat People.

Yeah, I had Holding Out for a Hero in mind — also, it was written by Jim Steinman, who wrote a lot of Meat Loaf’s hits, so if you ever wondered why it sounds like that — that’s why. See also It’s All Coming Back to Me Now by Céline Dion. Steinman absolutely has a type and it’s epic pop songs.

The Touch by Stan Bush (from Transformers was the first one I thought of.

“Ain’t nobody that doesn’t like” fits a lot of those.
