partner and I recently got this toy assuming it was silicone. only realized after that it’s made of PVC, and saw online that PVC is potentially dangerous due to phthalates and porosity. however, the manufacturer’s webpage and the packaging claim that this particular toy is non-porous, contains no phthalate, paraffin, or latex, and is “lab-certified” body safe. are these claims realistic and trustworthy? can this be used safely? and if so, given that it’s not silicone, can it be used with a silicone-based lube?

yeah i wouldn’t really recommend using it. a quick search doesn’t show any independent review of the toy, so i would assume it’s toxic unless proven otherwise. the sex toy industry is, sadly, mostly unregulated, so there should be a high degree of skepticism when approaching any product. after all, if you suffer side effects from it, what recourse are you going to get?

you can use it with a condom, if you’re really keen on getting some usage out of it. but overall, i think you should just take it as a lesson to check that anything you buy is silicone. $20 isn’t bad to learn it 😅

edit: on your follow up question about silicone lube with a pvc toy, i don’t have an answer for you. unfortunately, i can’t find any information on it. perhaps you could sacrifice this toy in the name of science? it seems like it’s safe with condoms, also, so you could probably use them together with a condom on, as mentioned before
