This hypothetical “would you rather” question pops up on Reddit and Lemmy once in a while, and every time the popular answer is the latter, implying risk of sexual assault. As if in a world of women there won’t be enough ready to do the same. Yes, women statistically, on average, less prone to desire to commit a sexual assault, but it doesn’t matter if one in ten or one in a hundred is ready to do this if no one else wants to stop them.

Why would they? While sexual assault by men against women is one of the few unforgivable sins in our culture, with huge prison sentences and no life in prison from cellmates, with saving a woman from this being one of the most powerful trops in literature to show characters’s nobility and a proper reason to award a civil medal, rape of men by women is treated as a joke or a comedy trope. It can’t even be called “rape” according to many dictionaries and legal codes, e.g. the British one.

Would whatever left of police (and there are few women employed in police) actually protect you in this case? Or is it more likely to be yet another “Raped? Baby, men can’t be raped” case?

    What?

Why the fuck are you spending so much of your free time thinking about rape?

LOL what? you choose the by far riskier of the two options, because… the other option is also “risky”?

and if you’re a woman, at least some dude will come protect you, and while there are women rapists aplenty, there will be no woman on the planet willing to come save a man from being raped?

    wtf is wrong with you?

the situations you’re describing are all part of patriarchy. women didn’t make those laws, men make up an overwhelming majority of today’s governments and when those laws were first made, women likely weren’t allowed to vote, let alone form any part of government.

women didn’t create these media tropes either, the narrative of “men big and strong and always ready for sex, women small and weak and can’t possibly harm men” is a patriarchal one.

patriarchy is a horrible construct that seriously harms everyone living under it, not any particular group of people.

sexual assault by men against women is one of the few unforgivable sins

But in that scenario with only 1 woman, it would be differet. This 1 woman would be treated so very special because there the future of mankind depends on her womb, and this womb gets literally tons of work to do…

Counterpoint to either option: would you rather be the brother of the only woman left on Earth or the sister of the only man?

It’s the same scenario, you’re never getting straight sex again and now you have to protect your sibling against the rest of the world. Because who else will?

The government? Either way you are being moved to a bunker under the White House, the Buckingham palace or whatever the equivalent is in your country.
