The introduction of ads on Prime Video were what got me to cancel Prime entirely. I don’t buy enough from Amazon to pay more than the Prime cost in shipping in a regular year, and I don’t use any of the other services bundled with Prime. If they had just let me pick shipping and ad-free streaming at the expense of Prime Music and the other benefits, I might still be a Prime subscriber.

But now I just sail the seas for the handful of good shows they actually have because I am not paying for the privilege of being served ads.

The more people pay money to watch ads, the more ads will be shown. Eventually, there won’t be an ad free anything. You will just pay to watch ads and sponsored productions.

Even the article stated ads have become normalized. Ads are not normal in the digital age. They are targeted, invasive, and companies use ads to take more information they don’t need.

The sooner people stop paying for adware, the sooner companies will start loosing money and change it.

“Prime Video is in a position to pivot because it has developed ‘zeitgeist shows’ that subscribers will sign up to watch”

But have they really? I haven’t seen anything advertised on Prime that I’ve wanted to watch in a loooong time.

Well, there’s The Grand Tour, The Man in the High Castle, The Expanse, The Boys. All the “The…” shows you can shake a stick at.

wait, I’m being handed a note. mhm. mmhmm. I see.

It seems all of those have ended. Well there’s uh, there’s… Clarkson’s Farm? Invincible? idk I quit Prime when they introduced ads.

Hmmm, yes, those shows, tempting, tempting.

On the other hand there are rather easy means to get those in better quality from other sources and without ads.

Just salty that even the best quality downloaded movie from a paid service is still visibly worse than the quality of the same movie from a pirated source.

Didn’t they already do that when they changed Amazon Prime subscriptions to include the ad-supported version? Do people actually subscribe to Prime Video on its own? I had assumed they jacked the price of standalone ad-free Prime Video at the same time they messed with the bundled version.
