Anyone who humanizes AI is a potential danger to our future. Remember that the only things that are living and conscious are things that rely primarily on cellular respiration to survive.

It should greatly disturb us when we hear a human refer to an AI system using common pronouns he/him/his, she/her/hers, and they/them/theirs

    Yes, we should also be worried about people referring to ships and boats as “she” as they clearly are attributing consciousness and humanity to it and are a danger to our future.

    If you play a video game and ever refer to a character as a “he” or a “she” you’re a sicko /s

    My language has no “it”. There’s no way to refer to objects without pronouns. We don’t think of objects as people.

    I think that, because English speakers have access to the handy “it”, they give too much importance to pronouns.

      Yup, in french we use the same pronouns for things and people, and every object has a gender. We don’t overthink that kind of detail.

      Evolution did give giraffe long necks.

      It’s more problematic, yet useful, to say that an animal adopted a strategy.

      And it’s just problematic to think that giraffes planned to reach leaves that were too high by growing their necks. It’s simply not how evolution works. Instead, giraffes that could reach higher leaves were selected for (the others tended to die more before leaving offspring).

        Evolution cannot give anyone anything because evolution is not an entity capable of giving, it’s a process that happens, without a consciousness deciding anything. That’s the point I’m trying to make.

              I didn’t think that. I just saw nothing wrong with saying that evolution gave giraffes a long neck. So, I thought that some clarifying was needed. I didn’t get at the time how it made evolution seem conscious.

    To be honest I’ve always called Google she, the first voice with 1-800-goog-411 was what turned into the assistant voice, which I think was an employee.

    This was before Sam Altman hit puberty.

    I’ve been anthropomorphizing a lot of my tech, kitchen appliances, plants, tools, bags, and anything else I use often enough in general.

    It helps me often, I’m looking for it often, so it deserves a name and a little character. Looking for Mr. Bagginson is more fun that just loosing your bag. All in a good fun, of course.

    The best I could do with AI are occasional slurs when talking about it. The way it’s trying to make you anthropomorphize it and sound human is so extremely off-putting I never even considered it. Fuck that shit.
