I am sure there are people that support the bill with good intentions but I have lost any fate in the EU to care for the privacy of its citizens.

I don’t support Chat Control but I’m also not worried police is going to monitor my chats on Signal looking for messages criticizing the government or that I will be prosecuted for my comments on lemmy. I have better things to be outraged about. You’re just another person on the internet insisting I should be outraged about it but I simply don’t care.

Like now, erosion of privacy… You do realize that EU passed GDPR not so long ago? Which was pretty revolutionary law when it comes to protecting personal data and privacy of its citizens? That many other countries then copied?
But for you the facts (i.e. that EU has one of the most robust data protection and privacy laws in the world) doesn’t matter, in your mind EU is trying to erode privacy and is oppressing its citizens. You will look at the part of the world where people have the most freedom, find a single thing you don’t like and you start talking about oppression. That’s derangement, plain and simple.
Is what everyone in the US thought as well few years back. Now you have a person in jail for speaking up against cop city and police officers routinely stalking their wifes/girlfriends/exes via flock or phone geolocation. Not like few cases news are outraged about. Thousands of known cases. In one state that demanded police disclose their geolocation requests with reason, comparing numbers disclosed with number of request, 2/3 were undisclosed. Even though it was a legal requirement. So the system was probably abused to violate peoples rights more often than it was used to actually investigate crimes.
Plus, even if you are not the one whose speech is suppressed, or who is spied on by your deranged ex, political speech being suppressed still hurts you by getting more bullshit laws passed.
Now if you don’t care about that, I guess there is no helping it, but I can’t think of a political issue more worth caring about than this.

Would you say issue of murders increasing to record numbers are unrelated because some murders are commited with a knife, some with an axe? The mechanism doesn’t matter, the abuse it allows does.
