The rule broadly targets ‘gender ideology’ in all entities that receive federal funds, including in academia, education, healthcare, governance, advocacy, discrimination protections, and more.

It sure does, shifting goal posts and all as to who is going to be cast in the light next to be called out and demonized. Reminds me of similar behavior that a popular political party in 1940s germany exhibited. Bastards.

the goal is to keep people on a knife’s edge of destruction, so that when some rich turd rolls up and offers you a tiny amount of security to do something reprehensible you’ll do it.

and if you live with deep, personal shame for it for the rest of your life, that’s just an extra little treat for them.

They would say that this helps the average citizen by preventing it from being okay to be trans in American society which has benefits like:

      • Preventing your kids from becoming trans

      • Ending boys pretending to be girls so they can rape and spy on your daughters in gender-segregated spaces.

      • Stopping “woke” doctors who embrace “trans ideology” from profiting off of coercing your children into expensive and unnecessary medical treatments.

      • Removing “woke” teachers from tricking your kids into becoming trans, or giving them the option to be trans.

      • Having to deal with trans coworkers and accommodating their workplace rights.

…and so on. These are almost exactly the same prejudiced justifications used in the past against gay rights in America.

In this new round of American-style fascism, our government has been coerced into being taken over by an extreme right-wing contingent of American political life: Christian nationalists, white nationalists, neo-liberal economic extremists (which used to be called plain old conservative economics), conspiracy theorists, and narcissists. These people have an extreme and unbalanced worldview that flows from their political, economic, social, and emotional wants and needs instead of the fundamental human rights of citizens in a democracy.

Beyond the sociopolitical convenience of having a group to scapegoat and channel political action against, there is a genuine conservative hate for those that do not conform to general conceptions of gender and sexuality. To conservatives, you’re either in or out - with us, or against us, and the people that make them feel weird about sex and gender are easy to exclude. That trans people are human and have rights and live under a democratic government with equal protection under the law becomes harder to integrate into conservative thinking with than simply hating them and the accompanying societal norms.

It’s not actually even the slightest bit different from the Nazis, you know. They started with trans people too.

Thanks for the thoughtful response and it all tracks with what i have observed as well. There is a certain dichotomy that appears when discussing rational topics with certain folks that call themselves republicans. Its always black and white and the either your with me or against me mentality is so true and absolutely maddening to deal with in the wild.

Yep. It was infuriating to talk to some of the people that should have known better. I’m not talking about the magaferbrainz types; I’m talking about certain so-called leftists I know. Because somethingsomethinggenocide, as if handing things to Donvict would be morally superior.

And of course the bothsides dumbasses that “don’t want to talk about politics” are nearly as bad. These are the ones that would say, innocently, “but aren’t both of them old?” as if 1) Age had any-fucking-thing to do with any of this shit and 2) Biden was actually still in the race at the point that said something so fantastically stupid.

I am trans. Do not use our name to justify genocide. Trans people are one of the single most pro-Palestinian demographics in the country. And if you’re so morally bankrupt that you’ll support genocide, you’ll throw trans people under the bus when it’s politically convenient.

You don’t realize what the moral test of genocide represents. It’s not just about Palestine. It’s a test of someone’s moral convictions. Trans people need politicians who actually believe in our rights. We’re a demonized minority group, and it’s always going to be politically convenient to give in to bigots and compromise our rights away one by one. The exact same centrist Democrats that supported Palestinian genocide are now the ones moving to the right on trans issues.

It was a test of character. A test of whether someone is willing to do the right thing, even if it’s politically inconvenient. Any politician that isn’t willing to do the morally right but unpopular thing is no ally of trans people.

Yeah. But hey, it was the only way to voice our opposition to genoside in Palestine.

Still the right call. 100%. Sorry about the erasure.

For the midterms there’ll be some more exciting reasons not to vote, as this whole thing has been a huge success for right-wing nutjobs.

I am trans. Keep our name off your filthy lips. Do not use our name to justify genocide. Something tells me you don’t give a rat’s ass about trans rights. You’re just using our name to score cheap political points.

The exact same Democrats who supported genocide are the ones now voicing “honest concerns” about right-wing panics like trans women in sports. Kamala never supported trans rights. She promised to simply enforce the law, no matter how discriminatory it might be. The same triangulating assholes who decided that Palestine was not a winning issue are now doing the calculus and deciding that trans rights are not a winning issue. Turns out monsters are just monsters.

You’re talking about the exact same people. It turns out genocide support is a pretty damn good measure of someone’s moral compass. If you’re willing to literally support genocide, then backing discrimination against a demonized minority group is trivial. If you’ve already sold your soul to support literal genocide, discrimination against minority groups is minor by comparison. Once someone has already committed murder, theft is an afterthought.

This is a moral issue. If a politician supports genocide, all their other policy positions are irrelevant. Because you know you’re dealing with someone that fundamentally lacks a conscience. And if you have no conscience, you’ll have no qualms about going back on any promise or using your position to enrich yourself.

The word of a genocide supporter is shit. Hell, lower than shit. At least shit has some value as fertilizer.

Don’t you dare use trans people to justify genocide. Trans people are probably the single biggest supporters of Palestinian rights in this country, second only to actual ethnic Palestinians living in the US.

Harris didn’t “support genocide”, and now everyone is fucked because of this idiot “position”.

Kamala never supported trans rights. She promised to simply enforce the law, no matter how discriminatory it might be.

So you didn’t vote for her and now what do you have? She promised to respect states’ laws? Damn that’s cold. No wonder you supported trump.

Don’t you dare use trans people to justify genocide.

You either! What the fuck do you think you got? Less genocide? How moral is that?

Keep our name off your filthy lips.

Look at the UK to see how quickly a party like the Democrats can turn on trans rights if you don’t keep them on a short leash. Your electoral analysis is not our electoral analysis. For us, it’s even more dangerous for the Democrats to turn transphobe than it is for Republicans to win an election. One we lose ground for four years. The other we lose ground for a generation. Our calculus is not your calculus. Our needs are not the same. Democrats have to learn that as a big tent party they can’t throw parts of their coalition under the bus for cheap political points.

Maybe instead of just using us as a prop, maybe you should listen to trans people instead of trying your savior routine. Minorities know how to fight for their rights better than you do.
