This seems like a kind of crazy that, in years prior, would attempt to abduct a kid so they could be a parent.
So… Good for everyone they got an alternative?
This is a good point. I always thought it was strange that people would have an ai relationship, but for some of the types of personalities who are into this sort of thing, it might keep them from acting out in other more unfortunate ways.
I also think this will be so commonplace in a few years, that people making fun of them now will be embarrassed of their own comments because it’ll be much more socially accepted.
I used to be the kind of person that would do make some light fun about people who had ai relationships. But when I did some research on it, the people were so lonely and so starved for affection and conversation, that now I don’t feel the same way about the issue.
If these ai relationships make them feel less lonely, and less likely to do damage to themselves or others, then all good.
I’ve always been lucky to have lots of good relationships, both platonic and romantic. But the fact is, not everyone is capable of that. So I decided to be less judgmental about all of it.
I’d maybe consider this type of crazy is finding an easier route to poor coping mechanisms than getting actual psych help. For the same reason pedophiles, antivax conspiracists, and parasocial-stalkers have simultaneously easier access to triggers & trouble, and lower barrier to entry to their… “communities” with the internet (and now AI), easy access to an AI yes-man roleplayer in this case probably isn’t the best option.
Yep!
