2·4 days agoYes, it’s bad yet I don’t see Poland removing Czarniecki (also responsible for pogroms) from their anthem any time soon neither I see streets named after Roman Dmowski, Józef Piłsudski, Józef Haller (his soldiers also participated in pogroms) etc disappearing. I don’t see how “Heroes of UPA” glorifies any transgression any more than “Heroes of AK” would glorify mass murder committed by Polish Homeland Army on Ukrainians (including children and elders) in Sahryń or Pawłokoma and other villages.

5·5 days agoShould he? Poland has numerous historic characters responsible for death of Ukrainian civilians, tortures and exploitation of Ukrainian peasants, raping Ukrainian women, intentional permanent maiming and involved in systemic planed denationalization of Ukrainians (which alone fulfills definition of genocide). As a citizen of Poland I can tell you that Poles have tendency to see the mote in their brother’s eye, but not the beam in their own. Characters I have in mind have streets in every Polish city and most of towns. One of them is mentioned in Polish anthem.
What Poles been doing to Ukrainians was horrible and it’s clear to me why it ended how it ended. What saddens me the most is Poles act like their ancestors are pure victims and that their cruelty toward Ukrainians was justified because they saw Ukrainians as wild and uncivilized (despite the fact that Ukraine was culturally and intellectually more advanced whole medieval period and up until later baroque had superior education of lower classes while in Poland even nobility was often lacking in that regard).
Poles been systematically racist and xenophobic toward Ukrainians for centuries. That’s a historic fact.

5·5 days agoNo idea where do you see “Ukrainians hailing nazis”. As a citizen of Poland I expect other citizens to stop behaving like bunch of nazis toward people Poles owe a lot in last 4 years.

5·5 days agoNobility was also resisting attempts on modernization of warfare - as result they did not had answer to Swedish riflemen or at best some half-assed solutions that they failed to implement in practice. Hard to tell as Polish historians love to obfuscate facts with euphemisms and wishful thinking. The fact remains that Swedish army was 3 times smaller than force Poland mobilized in total. Probably one of the most humiliating wars in Polish history.

4·6 days agoNot so fun fact: Poles been hating on Ukrainians for decades. In Przemyśl, city with historic Ukrainian population there were numerous acts of vandalism on walls of local school run by Ukrainians. Some vandals used to write slogans like “gas Ukrainians”. Stones been thrown toward windows while kids had lessons. On local Ukrainian military cemetery vandals were destroying crosses, replacing memorial boards, burning memorial wreaths.
