This is why I only pay attention to manifold, it’s funny money only, salty bet style, actually just fun instead of a horrifying gambling addiction.

Oh hey that’s Prospect Park Water Tower in Minneapolis, weird seeing it in a meme on the internet.
The Zachtronics solitaire collection (steam, Linux version available) has a bunch of fun unique solitaire variants, and every layout is guaranteed to be solvable.
It’s a lot harder to make that argument in the context of the rest of the lyrics
Music is a lot like love, it’s all a feeling And it fills the room, from the floor to the ceiling I see miracles all around me Stop and look around, it’s all astounding Water, fire, air and dirt Fucking magnets, how do they work? And I don’t talk to a scientist Y’all motherfuckers lying, and getting me pissed Solar eclipse, and vicious weather Fifteen thousand Juggalos together And I love my mom for giving me this Time on this planet, taking nothing for granted
It’s not anti-science, it’s frustration at the world for being the complicated, messy place it is, and a longing to go back to the simple innocence of childhood where even basic physical processes are magical. It’s not a rant that nobody should do science, it’s his own disillusionment, and a plea for people to allow a little bit more wonder into their world.
It’s a powerful lyric because even in a song about how magical the world is, it still slips in and ruins it, the pebble in your shoe that doesn’t allow you to ever truly experience that pure feeling again, always gnawing at you in the background no matter what you do.

Pravda News!@news.abolish.capital•Ms Rachel joins New York Times boycott in support of Palestine
6·2 months agoOh her content is actually science backed, I agree it’s weird to watch as an adult, but everything is based on speech pathology research to help kids learn.
And anyway, the correct term is gaslamping.

11·3 months agoAlways been a bit annoyed that people describe Morse as a binary code, it isn’t, it’s technically trinary, you have 3 symbols, dot, dash, and space. Without a space you can’t discern the difference between “hi” and “eeeeee”.
Why not rotate the 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4 measures by 90°, 60°, and 45° respectively? Now they are symmetric and still stack nicely.
This is actually the sandwich problem, which states there is exactly one slice that will split a sandwich of 3 elements into exactly 2 halves regardless of the shape or position of those elements. We don’t need the full proof, but the problem is continuous, so any desired ratio is possible, therefore you will always be able to slice an apple into exactly 1/3 and 2/3rds “good bits”, so a single slice will always be able to do the job.
It’s been added to OEIS already https://oeis.org/A268236

Anyway I’ll probably hack together an implementation to see if it actually works like I think it does

European Federalists@lemmy.world•Goodbye americano, hello long black? The new coffee order that's becoming a UK favourite
2·11 months agoActually it will taste more bitter, try this: make an espresso shot, and scrape off the crema. Stir the shot and taste. Then taste the crema. You’ll notice that the crema has significantly more bitterness than the rest of the shot and actually tastes kinda bad on its own.
So a long black once fully mixed will taste very similar if not identical to an Americano, but before that it can be a more dynamic drink that allows you to experience more angles of your coffee over time rather than a singular experience that’s the same all the way through.

Linux@lemmy.ml•KDE's New Distro: Btrfs-Based, Immutable Linux OS, with Flatpak and Snap
5·1 year agoThink of it as the Mac appstore VS the Windows App store. Mac apps (flatpak) are the same as desktop apps, but sandboxed, the store isn’t intrusive, and people found it convenient, so it was fine. Then the windows app store (snaps) launched and it did basically the same thing but slightly worse, except Microsoft (canonical) forced it down its users throats, so people hated it.
Both camps are right, from a technical perspective, snaps are fine, but philosophically, it sucks, and the Linux community cares way more about the latter than the former, otherwise they’d all be running windows.
I didn’t come here for a perfectly reasonable explanation, I came here to be angry!

You can run MoltenVK to convert vulkan calls to metal, and if you can stack DXVK on top of that, now with FEX to bring x86 over and the existing wine for Mac we have everything we need to run windows games badly on a Mac.
