I don’t think there is a distinction. But companies look the other way because they are only distributed physically in very limited quantities, so there is no perceived threat to their IP.

Religion is different from community. Community fills a social need for interaction and survival and is present in many intelligent animals. Religion fills an existential need to answer questions we can’t answer. Most humans are inherently uncomfortable with nihilism because it undermines our natural instincts. We think the world must have some inherent fundamental meaning and order to it that we can follow and which can rationalize calamity. That is where religion comes in, it provides answers and structure where nothing else can. That religion could be to a deity, to a great leader, or some philosophical framework, it doesn’t matter. It just needs to fill the role of a higher authority that a person can wrap themselves around for support.

Religion is a fundamental component in the psyche of many. They will find a substitute for traditional religions, be it through politics, organizational culture, or some other collection of superstitions.

I’d draw the line at creating topics specifically about grievances with the person vs it being mentioned incidentally. I’d also say that an independent small business is often much closer to a person than an organization.

There is a difference between calling someone out and using an online platform to organize against them.

Why am I intentionally missing the point? I don’t think platforming harassment is ever justified or constructive. Your assumption that I am acting in bad faith with no evidence is the same kind of ignorance that a lot of the right wing wackos have.

The way I see it, the only high ground is to not engage in this kind of targeted harassment. Once you go down that path, you are legitimizing the same actions being taken against you.

No? How is a nuclear family discount inherently offensive enough to be worth getting out pitchforks out over? I don’t agree that being bigots is enough either. They are backwards, lots of people are backwards, and harassing them probably won’t yield any constructive outcomes. So if they aren’t actively harming others, then what are you going to achieve here.

No I don’t feel attacked. I just don’t think it is useful to construe everything as political. Are the actions of animals also political? I think people would say no; but then can we be so sure that everything a human does is political? Something only becomes political when it is done with a political intent, knowingly making a choice because of some secondary association when equivalent alternatives are available.

When everything is framed as political you end up in the same place as dogmatists in all religions, trying to enforce some universal moral framework on every detail of a persons life. Many people will check out from that type of argument. Worse, many will think you and the causes that are import to you are jokes, and you become part of another’s political fodder.

No one with responsibilities has time to worry about where the pulp in their toilet paper came from, I’d be surprised if the factory could even tell you that.

There is no way you are practicing what you preach here. You are telling me you spend all day vetting every product and service you use to be aware of every little injustice involved? Or are you just following whatever someone else told you in a feed and assuming they are correct? That would functionally be religion.

That sounds like fundamentalism tbh. It’s very much adjacent to the thinking of religious fanatics framing everything in relation to the divine, when most people are just trying to get along with their lives.

In Apple’s case it helps that there aren’t any competitors for them. There are very few laptops with the same fit and finish as a laptop with good specs at a comparable price point.

From a comparison I saw, you can buy two complete laptops with the same specs as one framework. Its hard to justify an upgradable laptop at that point.
