Technology@lemmy.world•No one’s ready for this: Our basic assumptions about photos capturing reality are about to go up in smoke.English
8·1 year agoExactly, it was already established that pictures from untrusted sources are to be disregarded unless they can be verified by trusted sources.
It is basically how it has been forever with the written press: Just like everyone now has the capability to manipulate a picture. Everyone can write we are being invaded by aliens, but whether we should believe it is another thing.
It might take some time for the general public to learn this, but it should be a focus area of general schooling within the area of source criticism.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•U.K. might follow Europe in fining employers who message staff after-hours
3·1 year agoIn my workplace we mostly communicate through mail and Teams, and I block notifications out of work hours.
It works wonders in terms of not thinking about work outside of work.
I know that not everyone are as fortunate as me to be able to do such a thing, which is why legislation is most welcome.

News@lemmy.world•Democrats worry Biden press conference leaves them in 'purgatory'
10·2 years agoAs an European (which also means I’m much more politically aligned with AOC), isn’t she far too progressive for the popular vote?
While I’m in no doubt it would be what was best for the US, does she have the numbers to beat the insurrectionist?
In Denmark you get two options, you can buy an unlocked phone with cash. Or purchase a subscription with it, and the provider gives you some incentive for it. The subscription is locked for 6 months which is the max by law.
If I buy a phone with the subscription, the discount means you would usually pay 80% of the phones value.
That locks you to a subscription for 6 months that is usually more expensive than the other offers out there, but the difference doesn’t make up for the reduced price of the phone over the 6 month period.
So you are actually saving money, as long as you remember to switch to a cheaper subscription after the 6 months pass. The telecom of course hopes you don’t, and that’s their incentive for taking a hit on profit in the short term. It buys them marketshare.
Yes exactly my point, there are other reasons to sit on Apple, but their phones hardware is pretty good quality. I’ll throw in long software support as well.
You got the Fairphone as an option though, also within the capitalistic system.
As much as like to shit on Apple for many other reasons, they’ve had fairly few mishaps with their phones. Even counting bending phones, “you’re holding it wrong” etc., their track record is still decent compared to the competition.

4·2 years agoShe definitely has a few agents from the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) around her at all times. They are most often dressed in civilian clothing, but you can see the earpiece, they use to communicate.

15·2 years agoExtremely popular in urban areas in Denmark.
An electric cargo bike has replaced our car in our family of 2 adults and 2 small kids.
But it’s a good idea to bring the battery inside with you in the winter.

8·2 years agoWe don’t need more models, improve on the Open Source ones we already have.
We need better hardware with long ranging microphones that can isolate the voice.
I’m still waiting for something I can put in my rooms, I can even make use of my Sonos speakers for audio output, so it’s really just the microphone.

Got the same setup, but I connect to my server with vscode through SSH and edit files there.
Much more user friendly as a primary Windows guy.
