+1 Syncthing-fork Started using it a few months ago to sync notes between desktop and phone. Since it’s just a synced directory ive also used it to copy other files back and forth quickly
Oh, but my piHole has been running for a very long time
Boot up in the morning, shut down before bed. Small home server that uses about $1.50/month in electricity that i leave on 24/7 running jellyfin and mealie
I like to imagine I’m sitting by a river and remember that the thoughts are not mine, they are just part of the collective consciousness and flowing by. Not always easy, but this exercise is extremely helpful for me.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•A question for those who have a partner, how did you manage to do it and how long did it take?
3·16 days agoPlenty of Fish here too! It was my first time trying an online date after a bad breakup and my friends encouraging me to try it out. We talked on the phone for a couple weeks and then met for coffee and ended up talking for 3 hours. We’ve been together since (12+ years ago) and got married 8 years ago.
Reporting for duty
Thanks for posting!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is anyone just like... very terrified of losing your memories?
1·2 months agoEverytime you access a memory you change it. Create memoirs (journals, pictures, collages) to snapshot them at a point in time.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What are some bare minimum concepts beginner Linux users should understand?
4·3 months agoI’ve been using linux for years, but in limited contexts. With switching my primary desktop over this year I’ve found it helpful to stop by my local library and checked out some books on linux. I’m combining that with chatting with a locally running LLM. I’ve also setup an extra Raspberry Pi I had laying around with Ubuntu Lite as a sandbox OS to tinker with.
Maybe consider a portable sandbox setup like this you could quickly demonstrate or share?

Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon is making it impossible to remove the DRM from Kindle BooksEnglish
1·3 months agoYes, the ability to use Overdrive directly on the Kobo to checkout or return titles is so much nicer!

Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon is making it impossible to remove the DRM from Kindle BooksEnglish
12·3 months agoI bought my first ereader this summer and got a Kindle and hated it. Returned it and got a Kobo. Its fantastic, I can just load my ebooks like it’s an external drive. I dont have to email all my ebooks to Amazon just to get them on my own device.

Cooking @lemmy.world•Tried to make apple butter from the apples we picked a few days ago, made apple jam instead 🤪
4·3 months agoI use this recipe but 1/2 it for a 3lbs bag of apples.

4·3 months agoIt’s the primary usage of my slow cooker :D I’m not sure of other techniques. But I love just tossing them in on a day I’m doing house or yard projects, stirring occasionally and really making the house smell great.

8·3 months agoI love Apple Butter!! Apples were on sale for $2 a bag last week so I got extra and made apple butter out of a bag. I use a crock pot. 1 bag of apples peeled, cored, and rough chunked with some brown and white sugar, cinnamon, and touch of salt. Cook for 10 hours.
This response resonates to me. I would also add that after working all day looking at a computer screen and my mind is tired I like to enjoy other activities away from a screen. If I do look at a screen in the evenings, many times I dont want to think about a game or have to make choices for a game character. The times I really enjoy games are on the weekends. I imagine one day being an old man and getting to play video games all day again like I did when I was a child.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How has standing or standing-sitting vs sitting while working affected your life?
4·7 months agoSitting for so many hours daily was terrible for my back. Switched to a desk that raises and a walking treadmill under. Been doing that for over 10 years now. I will usually start the day walking (1.3 MPH is my sweet spot) stand for meetings ( since my treadmill is too noisy after all these yeara), and sit a bit towards the end of the day.

That’s fair. I’ve been using the web interface to claim the games and the heroic launcher on my steam deck.
