  • If you’re worried about credibility

Not really anymore. (considering Louis Rossman behind it)

My harsh comment strictly regarding this part:

but they are not required to release the code to the public

Again, it make no sense to pay this theoretical person (well, I wouldn’t, hence I won’t donate), cause there actually no benefit to anyone.

The point of all this is to be able to demonstrate to legislators that the DMCA needs to be fixed

Well, then why that money used for this charity event and not for cause mentioned above? “yeah, we know how to jailbrake your console, take that sony! Oh, but don’t worry, we won’t release this hack nor collaborate in any way to provide this feature to other people”

That being said I’m not deaf and yeah, I can understand legal side of thing. Won’t make it less annoying tho.

  • let me run steam on it

This. Actually one of the reasons why Valve didn’t sell GabeCube at loss or even at 0 markup, they prices it fairly well (compared to other prebuilds). Otherwise it would be an amazing deal - cheap and small prebuild desktop PC.

Same with PS5, if they allowed to install linux, people would start buying their consoles and *gasps in horror* - use device as they please, which means not buying games from their overpriced store. It actually already happened before with PS3, I recall article that some even used it for making a cluster essentially DIY’ing super computer. I doubt people would do the same with PS5 and realistically, they not even selling this console at loss, so they absolutely wouldn’t lost anything, but like, it’s Sony we are talking about.

  • I recently bought BC250 (same hardware as in PS5) and unlocked 40CU (by default on this board only 20 available, on PS5 - 38CU) — it’s actually pretty good machine. Alto, idle power consumption quite high (power saving features doesn’t work). The fact that sony just gatekeeps this hardware is insane. And in a year or two, when they release ps6, this one will become a ewaste, even tho with 16gb of ram it still pretty capable machine.

  • Just as update — I managed to compile it on linux, by replacing couple of libs and removing most of win depended calls. It crashes on game launch due to memory allocation problem. I think core part with how memory allocated needs to be redone in order to go in game.

And I think all what I’ve done so far makes no sense to continue, cause there another actually working crossplatform emulator — SharpEmu (also based on Kyty)

Upd. Also, new emulator have exact same problem, so I’m not so sure if it really emulator problem or demo that I use for testing.

  • Go rebuild your own transmission.

I’m pretty confident I will be able to. There a shit tons of guides, videos and tutorials. In fact, I worked in repair center and that was my usual routine. Don’t know something? Learn.

    That makes you an ashole.

I see only one asshole in comments and that ain’t me. I see no reason for me to provide instruction that will take hours to type and may not even be correct, just to please some weird guy on internet. I gave general directions: to have best experience and privacy with those TVs, you need to root them. How you do it (and if you even want to) is up to you.

  • but it’s possible that being visible and in-person with your coworkers increases your chances of getting a raise or promotion.

On my current job for about 2 years, I had 2 promotions. Both times I had to literally go to my boss and tell “for current payrate and for current set of responsibilities, you can go fuck yourself, I’m out”. Only after that I got promoted. Doubt it will work third time, so I actively look for new job.

Point is - no one in our company gets promotions, no matter if you literally suck CEO dry (CEO is a “she”, so that would be at least funny to watch) or if you freelancer that no one seen in office even once (me).

and your mileage may vary Maybe I’m in this category tho, but feels like it’s global problem, judging by comments.

  • There a couple really promising animes this season - another adoptation of “Ghost in the shell” and “Yani Neko” - anime about obsessed with smoking cat-girl. Both visually tiers above what you would usually see. And recent “frieren beyond journey’s end” also quite good. I really hope it’s not a “fluke” and a general direction where anime is headed, cause all that slop with cheap 3d about yet another isekaed character_name, kinda started to bother people - no one wants it.

Also, season 3 of “One punch man” with it’s moving-png meme kinda hit the nerves of some people in charge, could also affect things.

  • Fair. I just hate damn thing. Been using linux since 2010 and till like, 2016 nothing ever worked in wine for me. It was always some weird library problem which was hellish experience to install and like, after that process you could hit roablock like “net4.5” which just wasn’t supported. And all of that just to launch installer, not even the program itself. Proton meanwhile just works.

But yeah, even if it works, it will take a hit performance wise. Considering PS5 have somewhat fresh zen2 cpu with relatively high IPC, any additional layer can cause a problem. Not like, a problem for top of the line CPU with something like zen4 or zen5, but for anything weaker than that - absolutely.

  • Regarding wine\proton - answered in another comment. Regarding “eventually porting it” - it usually becomes quite the task, cause of all the windows dependencies inside. I recall that was one of the main problems with Cemu for example (weirdly, not so much with cpu emulator part itself). It looks like it already using Qt6 and C, so it shouldn’t be too hard, but it easy for me to say, cause I’m not the one who will port it after all.

Upd. Yes, thank you unknown user for silent downvote. It clearly explains to me what you disagree with and clearly you already analyzed whole repo with this project and already ported it to linux.
