News@lemmy.world•California becomes first state to offer health insurance to all undocumented immigrants
5·2 years agoYou’re so close. It’s true. Why give them when we don’t have it covered for ourselves.
You hint on a lot of other issues too, like homelessness and drug programs.
I’ll say this, we do not have an issue with funding. For example we can look at other countries that do have proper funding for these programs and their gdp is nowhere near what the US generates. And yet we struggle!?
We have problems that we can’t solve alone but we are indoctrinated into thinking that we can.
We don’t need to throw this money away, but we do. Somebody will get paid a boat load of money and some poor immigrant will receive substandard healthcare. All this is working as intended and someone in 50 years will ask the same question.
Lol, the French one is true and I had no idea
Americans have accepted this idea. To our detriment. And to the detriment of the underdeveloped world. It’s a wicked system. God damn it we’re foul.

politics @lemmy.world•AOC says her life 'completely transformed' for the better after Pelosi stepped down from leadership
66·2 years agoPelosi had some serious contempt for the younger generations. She gripped to power like a military junta. She definitely believed in seniority and made you adhere to the ruling class tradition. Fuck her.

11·2 years agoThat’s what I’m talking about! Enough of taking the high road - we can’t let them continue gaslighting. Every time I see a matter-of-fact statement I throw it right back to them. Turns into a silly circle jerk that never goes anywhere.

14·2 years agoYou think you’re unique coz you’re contrarian and can think for yourself. You’re just more interested in being edgy.
And it’s not just lemmy, all of media has come out to remember who Kissinger really was. Except for Reuters. They suck.
Anyway, be brave and pick a side. There’s no high road here by taking a neutral stance on Kissinger. He was a monster and should be remembered as such.
I’ll never understand fanboys that fawn over subs. Why give yourself extra work? Anime is the perfect medium for dub.
I understand that you can lose meaning in translation but most fans do not understand Japanese so why?!?

memes@lemmy.world•Japan is living in the future that the 1990s dreamed of.
8·2 years agoVenezuela and Japan have the highest, but you forgot to mention the United States is 12th -“While the U.S. boasts the highest GDP in the world, it nonetheless spends more than it earns. Major contributors to the national debt include the world’s largest military budget, tax cuts (which reduce government income and rarely result in a corresponding increase in economic growth), COVID-19 relief efforts, and mandatory-but-underfunded programs such as Medicare.”
Brunei and Afghanistan have the lowest. You need a better metric to make your pro neo liberal take💀

3·2 years agoJust you, Mike. Just you
US. Samesies. Forced starvation during the trail of tears.
We can play the 'Whataboutthis" game if you want.
So the patron not only pays for the food/service, but there’s a separate fee to pay for ALL employees living wages??
If this trend continues the customers will end up making the food too!? Lol, I would talk to the manager for sure.
Capitalism’s solution to homelessness is mass starvation… in underdeveloped countries. With a side of bombs. All in the name of democracy

The state tells you murder is illegal. Except when the state does it. You can’t expect people to follow, “do what I say, not what I do.”
It’s cruel, it’s a reflection of our morals. The death penalty is not a deterrent for murder. The death penalty is hypocrisy. The death penalty is for an unserious society.
But the death penalty is just a symptom of a greater chronic illness we suffer from. We’ll just continue to kill ourselves until we find a cure for the disease.
Edit: I see many do not like my wording for state sanctioned murder. If you are reading this and don’t understand, imagine if listening to George Bush (can’t remember which) tell the tv America doesn’t negotiate with terrorists. He’s drawing a moral line in the sand with terrorism. That’s my point. We need to figure out where our moral line in the sand is with the death penalty, because right now it’s all over the place. Do I think outlawing the death penalty will solve our societal woes? No, I do not. The people will demand it until it is reinstated. For me I ask what is the purpose of the death penalty? Does it serve a greater good for a society? Obviously it does not. Americans are murdered all the time, so it serves no purpose.
