Ctrl+R to search your bash history. I hate how long I went without knowing this, so I’ve always got to spread the word about it.

The Action button, which could be similar to the Apple Watch Ultra’s Action button but with more phone-focused options, is expected to be a new physical button on the next-generation Pro iPhone models that replaces the Ring/Silent switch. The Action button would allow users to quickly access various functions and settings without necessarily unlocking the device or navigating to an app.

Technology@lemmy.world•How to get past a paywall to read an article ...English
11·2 years agoI’m sure most are already aware of it, but to get around it they’d have to lock part of the article behind a “load more” button that requires JS (or even just auto-load it via JS without a button), which I have seen some do.
There must be a reason it’s not done universally though. Maybe because it’d break archives? Not sure

5·2 years agoFirefox already supported ublock origin on mobile and a handful of other extensions. This is just them opening it up to more extensions.

5·3 years agoHe said it himself. Reddit isn’t profitable. If the VC funding dries up, the company is done. Just goes to show the importance of finding an alternative way of funding the operating costs of online communities. Maybe we’ve got a good one here.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that kbin.social is now federating, adding hundreds of communities and ~26k more users contentEnglish
2·3 years agoI’m sure you can do that in cloudflare but it’d require whitelisting every Lemmy instance that you want to federate with on kbin’s end, which is a bit much.

3·3 years agoLemmy uses Actix Web for the backend, which I’d probably pick too. The frontend though, I’d prefer to just render templates on the server instead of building a SPA in JavaScript.
This really doesn’t need that level of interactivity, and it’s used for annoying things like live-updating my frontpage. Maybe I’m just biased from how bad reddit’s redesign was. This is at least way better than that.
Yeah, there isn’t an obvious way to tell. I only know because their instance’s address is
lemmy.pt.Although, annoyingly, Lemmy doesn’t show that part if someone has a display name set. Not sure if kbin does though.
There should be an easier way to tell.
No, the person you’re talking to is using Lemmy :P
Hi kbin! Happy to see y’all joining us.

4·3 years agoIt was blocked by kbin having cloudflare DDoS protection enabled to reduce server load. I guess that blocks federation.

Didn’t take me that long, but I had a similar reaction to learning about it haha
