I’m adding this to the list of things that I would have used if not for learning about it from a shutdown announcement.

64·3 days agoI disagree they are bozos. I’m actually coming around on the idea. Not the mirror thing of course, but the VC grift using a flashy idea. Millions of dollars and the only thing you make is a slideshow? Brilliant.

2·3 days agoThe point was that it’s a shame the taxpayer is on the hook for this. Not that the mother is solely at fault and the administrator isn’t.

1·3 days agoOurs is steel, so that would probably help. Though if you have raccoons in your area, it might require a large safe to keep the bin secure.

3·3 days agoThat’s a convenient thought to absolve the mother.
While the administrator carries responsibility for the lack of action, they did not shape the child’s mind nor circumstance that led to this situation in the first place.

2·4 days agoFor some time we had a bin lined with a bag in the garage large enough for two weeks of our waste. Within the house were small bins, about the size of a shoebox stood on its end, with no bags. When they fill, we tipped it into the garage bin. Two bags a month is pretty good in my mind.
Smell, vermin, rotting exposed food waste were all solved by the garage bin having a lid.

1·4 days agoIn that last sentence of my comment, I was referring to a hypothetical cancer chart, as a comparison to the chart of this post and the inherent uselessness of including information that cannot be experienced by everyone.
Funnily enough, I haven’t a clue. I only actually have cereal at a nearby diner that inexplicably has oat milk on the menu.

3·4 days agoKudos to you. Too few are capable of this type of reflection.
When you know a bit about something, it’s always an easy thing to mistakenly presume others to know what seems like the most baseline of information about the subject matter.
As it is for horses, only three breeds came to my mind. Clydesdale, carousel, and of course this genuine two ton beauty.
I like the concept of listing ingredients for something so simple. Here’s a recipe for one of my favourite breakfasts:
- Thin sliced strawberry
- Oat milk
- Store brand cereal
JoshuaFalken@lemmy.worldtoData is Beautiful@lemmy.world•The most male and female reasons to be admitted to the hospitalEnglish
5·4 days agoIt doesn’t compare directly to the male category because there is no male category listed.
Quite a bit of interesting information on display to be sure, but with 20% of the chart displaying information that excludes one of the two things being compared, it’s not a good representation of what the title suggests.
On a chart showing male female disparity for types of cancer, ovarian and testicular would be just as irrelevant as the bottom fifth of this admissions chart.

8·4 days agoJust by asking what breed such a horse could possibly be, you’ve exemplified more horse related knowledge than most people possess. Two tons is pretty obviously a guess by someone that doesn’t know a lot about horses or other animals of similar size.
Not much different to how most people would be wrong when estimating the weight of a building, the volume of the ocean, or the quantity of trees on the planet. If it’s something unfamiliar to you, you can’t be expected to be accurate.

4·5 days agoCould you elaborate on this comment?
Oh I didn’t mean ‘end of the line’ to come off as though I have experience in the food industry. I’ve worked in waste disposal at end point facilities and have seen all what the grocers toss away on a daily basis.
Thousands of apples rolling out of a truck is a surreal sight. It looks like a physics simulation on a high end computer. The first few times I almost found myself in awe. At least until I remembered where it was happening.
Don’t get me wrong, most organic waste being disposed of was spoiled, but a truck or two a day of edible food was typical.

11·7 days agoI happened across this video yesterday about this entrepreneur. Seems like a good hearted person.
Shyster menu options include:
- $10 - the only choice and drink, mustard and sauerkraut
- $11 - hot dog with the wrong toppings and drink, four toppings a la carte
- $1 dog treats
- $1,000 shirt off my back
Some choice text from the display boards:
- “The Only Honest Ripoff in DC”
- All prices include tax, and there is no tip screen. I hate that garbage.
- Want a hot dog with no drink? You aren’t saving money.
- Briefly recite the historical significance of MoonPies and/or RC Cola for a five cent discount on your whole order.
If I were local, I’d be buying some dogs.

What you describe strikes me as reaping enjoyment from technical accuracy. I think of it like mastering Moonlight Sonata as opposed to riffing something jazzy with friends. Both enjoyable, but quite different.
