I think people undervalue cd/dvd/bluray. Up to this day it’s best format for giving away data like family photos.

With any usb device there’s much larger security risk. Also people want to get storage back.

1. In practice the same system can be used for banning people from social media and communications. Shadow bans etc. Other use in future may be social score.
2. What’s legal today, may be not legal tomorrow. People will be self censoring.
3. This gives more leverage for older people over young people, let’s not pretend: people are selfish.
