Great review, it sounds delicious! I did always want to try it but the ones I always see tend to be a bit expensive. Almost seems worth it just for the name though, which I would be sure to use when offering it to someone.

That seems to be what most of the criticism is, but because all the comics are generally expressing a very obvious take, people equate criticizing it as saying you disagree with the message of it. Add that in with the 1/10000 comment that’s some idiot right winger who hates it for idiot right winger reasons and you get the massive pushback-against-the-pushback like you see here.

But it’s quintessential, low effort, upvote-farming reddit spam. Very performatively left wing and disingenuous.

Late to this post, but I recently cut off Spotify and Qobuz is the best alternative I’ve found so far between itself, Tidal, and Apple Music, in case anyone is wondering “well what do I use?” Good audio quality, a bit cheaper, and none of the Spotify bloat of AI DJs or that awful UI that splits your screen into two panels when you just want to scroll through your albums. The UI/website are a bit clunky and outdated, but it’s great if you just want a direct interface to listen to music and it doesn’t seem to support awful people in the way Tidal/Apple/Spotify would.

Not sure of any good alternatives besides these if anyone has a better recommendation, but I’m happy with this so far. It also comes with free access to Soundiiz to transfer all your saved albums and playlists over immediately.

Of course you could also just get all music for free and support the bands you like through merch/records.

It was tough to cut off Spotify after using them for so long, and I do miss the daily mixes/discovers, but I can just find new music through my lastfm friends or find other means that are more in my control. It’s a little more work but it’s worth it to switch off Spotify imo, whatever you switch to.

That anger and lack of self-control is fine as a vague blogpost maybe, but as an actual developer? Hell no, anyone who thinks this is acceptable has no place in any important field. Anybody who can’t control their emotions and act efficiently when putting criticisms forward is worthless, 30+ year old accomplishments they’ve been coasting on notwithstanding.

He self-admittedly doesn’t care about people growing and improving, which is the single most important aspect of being a developer. He’ll probably accomplish more than I ever will, but you know what? I’m still going to pass on better habits to the next generation, because in the long run they will accomplish more because of people actually encouraging that growth. It’s just that selfish, self-serving, admittedly less extreme, Andrew Tate-style toxicity in its earlier form (and being a KotH fan, you’re probably familiar with that episode from the newer season showing how Cotton’s behavior relates to those types, so hopefully you get what I mean).

Fuck that, this is what creates those assholes and makes people unable to work in teams and we should be doing everything we can to push people like this out of the field, because it causes more harm than good. I’d rather have some fresh out of college kid who can actually communicate like a human and work with people while giving/receiving criticism without throwing a tantrum on my team than a Linus.

Do people not like Uniqlo??? I’ve gotten a good amount of clothes from there and it has always been good quality for me. Tbh I don’t even know where else to look that isn’t crazy pricy or super cheap quality.

It’s a nice extension of your PC but don’t worry about it if you don’t have money you can absolutely spare. Even then, as others have mentioned, look at used ones because they’re a lot cheaper.

Spreading the word about it and maybe simplifying the process a little is good, but I don’t think the goal should be to become mainstream. Then you just end up with Reddit again, fediverse or not. Having a small technological literacy test to filter people out and keep communities somewhat small isn’t necessarily bad, it keeps things higher quality and focused by ensuring only people willing to put in at least a tiny bit of effort join. Like how, on Reddit, the “default” subreddits were complete garbage, but the smaller communities people had to put in some effort to find actually tended to have good content.

I got excited after hearing how much people love this one, I usually play every ~5 or so they release and just pick out the best, but sadly the performance was so bad I had to refund it. I have a bit better than the minimum specs on steam (and the minimum specs are a ryzen 5 and gtx 1070, shouldn’t this be the standard target?) and ran everything at low, 1080p, and couldn’t get past 15fps.

There are better looking games from ~5-10 years ago I can run at 1440p or even 4k 60fps on high settings, I wish game studios would stop trying to go for the most intensive possible graphics effects with how diminished the returns are for it.
