I read his books in German, but there seem to be English translations and unless they’re really bad it should not matter for enjoying his writing or the stories. I read Noah first, but as far as I remember it’s a very good thriller, but not that psychological, at least in comparison. After that I just started his books chronologically. Does not matter though, there is no continuing story line or returning characters. But I can vouch for the psychological character of at least his first four books (Therapy, Amok, The Child, and The Soul Breaker).

I you like psychological horror/thrillers then Sebastian Fitzek will keep you busy (and maybe awake at night)
In Dutch for example you can call it “gemeentepils”, which will translate to something like communal lager.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was the craziest thing you have seen a tourist do?
14·1 year agoSwitzerland. Taking the very busy cableway down the mountain. People waiting in line to get in. Next stop, I see some people exiting and immediately getting in line again there. Apparently they thought you need to get in line again at every stop. Crazy. Sweet maybe, but crazy.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is your criteria based on which you feel something someone says calls for proof or not?
1·1 year agoJesus is not mentioned anywhere other than scriptures from hundreds of years after his supposed existence.
A bit off topic, but this is an exaggeration. There are several sources from the first century. That’s decades at most, not centuries. The letters of Paul and the gospels, obviously, but also Jewish historian Josephus and some Roman governor from somewhere in what is now Turkey I think. There is actually not that much debate among historians that Jesus existed. Whether or not you want to believe he was saving the world is another thing of course.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is your favorite movie? Or, what is your favorite genre of film?

In the quiet words of the Virgin Mary: Come again, you piece of shit?
No it was by trial and meant as punishment. Quite common even, but I first heard of it in relation to Cromwell c.s.
The fact that they dug up Oliver Cromwell’s body for a posthumous execution. It’s just insane on so many levels
I’m not concerned per se and I definitely applaud the MFA requirement. I mean I hate MS and don’t like apps I don’t need, and I don’t trust them, but as others pointed out this would mostly just be whiny. That’s why I asked for reasons why restricting users to MS Authenticator would be preferable. If it’s more secure or technically way easier and thus cheaper to maintain then fine, I’ll find an acceptable way to comply. If not, then it’s them who are whiny and I’d rather make the case to let us use whatever authenticator we already have installed.
This could indeed be a valid reasoning. I’m going to investigate a bit. If you can easily cough up some MS documentation page on this topic please do
Thanks people, some good replies here. I could demand a work phone, but that’s impractical, dragging around two phones etc. I’d like all my 2FA in Aegis and not have to think and pick the right app first, let alone pick and unlock the right phone. The Shelter option is very nice, didn’t know about that. If my company won’t budge I’m doing that. When push comes to shove I could even use outlook that way on my phone.
There’s also the naughty programmer getting spanked by EFL

I used to build e17 / Enlightenment on Arch for years, was kinda cool and I learned a lot about building packages, but now I don’t care anymore and I just use gnome. Or rather I’m using Firefox and a terminal and that’s pretty much it. Oh and Gimp every once in a while. But most of the time it’s fullscreen Firefox so who cares what de is behind it as long as it just works

- Once upon a time in the West
- Dogville
- Pulp Fiction
- American Beauty
- Fucking Åmal
Top rated because of the story (all), acting (all), music (except for 2), number of awesome quotes (3 and 4) and all in all just being amazing.
Also, since I saw someone mention it, I’d like to add that the worst movie of all time is imho 2001 A Space Odyssey. On IMDb I don’t rate movies lower than 2 stars because I have 1 exclusively reserved for 2001 ASO. Watching it has been the most boring experience of my life, which btw is saying a LOT. Punishment in hell probably shifted to eternally watching this movie, with sinners wishing to go back to when they were physically tortured. I cannot stress enough how much I dislike this movie. You can be absolute sure that my top 5 is nothing like that.
