Can you ellaborate the Linux Distros? I’m considering switching from Windows to Linux and currently informing myself about the different distros. Why are they better than Mint and Ubuntu or what is wrong with them?

I tried it and it’s pretty nice indeed. But while I could convince my familie and friends to use Signal, there is no chance that they will use SimpleX. It’s too unknown and “techy” for most of them.

Davon kann ich auch ein ganz großes Lied singen, geht uns hier genauso. Wohne in einem Wohngebiet, aus dem nur eine Straße hinaus führt. Was dann folgt ist eine ungefähr 250 Meter lange Straße mit Parkflächen rechts und links, drei(!) Schulen und eine Berufsschule.

Zwischen 7:30 und 8:00 sowie 13:00 Uhr ist es eine Qual, hindurch zu fahren (und laufen). Immer wenn möglich vermeiden wir es, zu dieser Zeit loszufahren, da genau das eintritt, was du beschreibst: Helikoptereltern ohne Rücksicht auf Verluste mit mangelnder Kompetenz zur Fahrzeugführung. Blinken? Optional. Wenden? Geht überall! In zweiter Reihe parken obwohl viel zu eng? Na logisch. Parken im Parkverbot, sodass sämtliche Sicht versperrt ist? Kavaliersdelikt. Was die meisten für Autos fahren, muss ich wahrscheinlich nicht erklären. Das Klischee der Muttipanzer bestätigt sich dort jeden Tag.

Da sind aber nicht nur Frauen, sondern auch genug Männer dabei.

Viele fahren mit ihren Kindern sogar bis in den Pausenhof (kein Witz) und lassen dort ihre Kinder raus. 250 Meter Schlachtfeld jeden Tag. Sogar die Polizei weiß das, kann aber anscheinend nichts dagegen tun oder wollen nicht, keine Ahnung.

Last time I used thunderbird was many years ago, like 10 years or so. Can you create a mail adress there? How does it compare to other providers like Tuta, Proton, Posteo and others?

Doesn’t Matrix have a huge problem with metadata or am I not up to date with this?

I’m using Tuta and their app for a few years now. The app was slow indeed but it’s good now, no problems so far. Lack of IMAP support is justified with security, they say. I personaly don’t need IMAP as I’m completely satisfied with the app, which is available officially in f-droid btw.

What about SimpleX Chat? Comes without identifiers, is open source and not located in the US. Relay Servers are located in Germany, UK and Sweden and it’s possible to host your own. Last audit was in 2024. No metadata is stored. Fundings are handled very transparently and presentated on the Website.

Not meaning to advertise it, just genuine interested in other peoples opinion.
